Hi all,
Looking into getting the iMac 27 (upgraded)
3.5GHZ i7
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 2X4GB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
A) Is anyone running anything similar, and are you happy w/ GW2 mac client and iMac? I see lots of problems on the forums, but didn’t know if this is for older models.
B) Is anyone running GW2 on parallels? How does it run?

I’m a PC/Windows user, so keep that in mind when you respond. I’d be moving from a AMD Phenom x4 9750 w/ 8 GB and a Nvidia 560TI.
Thanks.

Here is my opinion for what it is worth. If you are planning to purchase an iMac your decision should be for reasons other than gaming/playing GW2. All my computers are Mac, 2009 iMac, 2012 MacBook Pro, 2012 iMac. I have very few problems playing GW2 on any of them but I don’t run any of them at max settings. That said, the fact that GW2 runs fairly well on my Macs is just a bonus. If gaming is important you should stick with a Windows machine. I have not run anything through Bootcamp or Parallels because my personal preference is to not put Windows on any of my computers so I can’t provide feedback on that. I have seen others here report some improved performance running through Bootcamp.
I’d post my 2012 iMac specks but I’m not home for a few days and don’t know them off the top of my head. The game runs fine on average settings and I really have not had many issues aside from some tearing (rarely) and the TP issue which is not exclusive to Mac. Just from memory the specks on the iMac you posted are indeed better than my 2012, which makes sense. I would think you would be fine but then again reading this forum it seems spotty on what works with what Macs.
I have an iMac 27’’ and use the native Mac Client. I don’t ever experience any issues of note. I did once have an issue with the client not launching. However, as with any Mac application, just delete the preferences in the application support folder and it works just like new (but you most likely won’t ever need to do this).
I wouldn’t see a benefit to running the Windows client on Parallels. I do use parallels, just not for GW, performance is always better on an OS working natively with its intended hardware.

Cool. I was asking because I’m looking to get into iOS development and the only tie I really have to PC is GW2. Other than that it’s all the same: interwebs, email, netflix, etc.

So you’d think that mac beta client would run better than parallels regular client?

Then get an iMac.

Yes the mac client will run it better than parallels. Parallels is not for gaming, the amount of Ram, GPU and CPU that it takes up and the small amount it can give to programs running inside of it makes gaming not all that practical – especially considering how poorly optimised GW2 is.
So yeah, stick with the OSX client.

Thanks everyone!
Either boot camp it or run the client, a virtual machine is not suitable for gaming.
i briefly had the late 2012 model with the highest specs and i used to play the GW2 mac port on high settings and it was running with ZERO lag, even in events like claw of jormag that are packed with players.
