Hey all,

Ever since I started playing GW2 through the Mac Beta I’ve been dealing with two issues that I have yet to resolve.

1) Map loading takes an ungodly amount of time and even when the area appears my character is invisible and immobile for another 3 minutes or so. There have been times when I am attacked and can’t move to defend myself.

AND

2) Watching Activity Monitor on my dock I see that my inactive RAM slowly swallows up my free RAM as the game goes on and eventually I have to stop playing because it gets so slow. I have used the “purge” command in Terminal but now this is causing other issues on my computer.

Has anyone else dealt with similar problems or heard of any solutions that helped them?

For the ram issue, I have that too. I also use the purge command regularly, but upgrading to 8gb has eliminated the issue of running out of available ram (I would regularly have 10mb of available ram left and the game would skip, stutter, and freeze for a few seconds at a time until I purged). I still purge on occasion for fresh memory after extended play since the game seems to be using more and more with each new patch.

What OS are you running?

Unfortunately, it seems you didn’t list your processor, but I looked up the specs for this type of Mac and it seems your CPU doesn’t meet the min requirements… Plus, your vid card is just at the min requirements. This is most likely your issue with the horribly slow loading.

Even if you did upgrade your ram to 8gb, your processor will still be your bottleneck. You can try turning your culling to minimal settings and run all graphics at absolute minimum, but I fear you will still have some loading issues.

In the near future, I suspect Anet will need to release recommended specs and will most likely have to increase min specs with some of the changes they are making to the game.

Tried a repair on the install? (check the stickies and the Wiki)

You have a very underpowered GPU. There’s only so much that can be done here.

Note that “inactive” RAM isn’t a problem—it’s simply RAM reserved by processes that the OS might take back if it needs to. You should never need to run purge—that’s not solving your problem and it’s just a placebo.

Either get more RAM, upgrade your machine (add an SSD; buy a new machine, etc) or tweak your settings downward.
