As you all know, there where a couple of Mac related fixes in the last patch.

From what I am seeing, the patch fixed these issues for most of the Mac players. I have however, noticed that there may be a handful of y’all that are still experiencing issues.

If you are still experiencing either of the following issues I would like you to provide me with some basic info about your system by replying to this post.

  • Fixed a bug that caused the Trading Post to crash on Mac systems.
  • Fixed a bug that required rebooting to restart Guild Wars 2 on Mac systems.

Basic System Info Needed:

  • Mac Model – example – MacBook Pro Mid 2011
  • Full OS Version
  • Amount of RAM
  • CPU
  • GPU – Please include both if you have a system with an Intel and AMD/Nvidia card.

The game crashed for me when I tried to open the Trading Post. After I restarted the game the TP seemed to work normal.

Still having the issue with a process not shutting down after a normal exit. I exited the game last night normally (no error). This morning, I found I could not launch the game because a process was still running. Had to use Activity Monitor to Force Quit it before the game would run.

Thank you for paying attention to this. I have been experiencing a lot of crashes lately. As of lately I am unable to enter the Trading Post without crashing. Also having problems with starting the game.

Note; I am using a computer that just meets the initial minimum requirements (when I bought the game). However, I was able to run the game semi smoothly until September.

My problem is of a different nature. I’ve downloaded over 700+ MB over a while (the launcher loves to drop to 0.0 kbps for me and refuse to do anything at all) for the last patch, I was fully update before the Halloween/October patches, and dwindled it down to the last 4 files remaining.
Now, today, I’ve downloaded 500+ more MB and it still has not budged from 4 files. I’m STILL letting it download and it is not finishing. I refuse to believe a patch is over a gig (and my .app is still only 20.49 gigs). What’s going on here? I’m hoping it will finish soon, but this is quite ridiculous.

What’s funny is in the patch notes for the event says the crash bug has been fixed. Clearly not as I’ve been getting more crashes not less since the patch went live! A tp that sometimes won’t work, that’s annoying but that’s the nature of the net especially at busy times but I really find it hard to fathom since september the crashing problem still persists if the tp fails, this issue never existed with the awesomnium tp even at the least stable times.

Problem with troubleshooting this is the tp loads for most people so they can’t fix the crashing, what needs to be done is to get the tp to fail (The game will dim in contrast) and work out what’s causing the tp processes to die (that’s why there’s that never loading circle). It’s no use troubleshooting from setups that aren’t experiencing problems.

P.S. What other programs are open when you run the Mac? Generally for me my tp worked nearly perfectly for days or even 2 weeks notably when not running safari, teamspeak even seems to cause tp crashes. Please fix that coherent related issue permanently, I’d be happy to not have to have my activity monitor always open! Never had to as long as I’ve used the mac which is 2+yrs and since September’s feature that changed! Again a tp that doesn’t work all the time, okay. One that also crashes the game often without an in game means to close the game, not okay. As I’ve repeatedly said, this never was a problem with the 1st tp, as long as I’ve used it anyway. A broken tp’s a major annoyance but at least if I’m too busy to restart at that time I’ll find the nearest bank etc or mail items rather than having to waste time rebooting the whole game.
Also, as there’s no way to revive a non working tp without a full restart (Past we could changing language, occasionally that worked) then if it’s the case where the tp will not work have the game self terminate too or give the player that choice incase they don’t want to quit just yet. Better damage limitation than a crash.

That error also appears frequently. Especially with halloween related areas.
Have had 2 crashes in wvw, one was understandable it was a crowded long battle but the most recent was not, may not be related to the patch though, rather wvw has never been too stable.

Lacey, can you shed some light on how you ‘fixed’ the problem? If we had an idea what was done perhaps we can work out why it’s not worked for everyone. Granted the game’s more stable than in September so there has been some progress.

No longer have to restart computer every time I exit GW2. Unfortunately, after this patch I now crash every 1/3 times I try to use a Trading Post.

When the tp crashes the client freezes, my guess is the game won’t exit when that happens no matter how long I wait so I still use the force quit, therefore I am sceptical anything has been fixed at all. 1st crash after patch, tried the tp with safari open, if they truly fixed having a browser open shouldn’t be a major issue, was never a major one with the old tp, how I miss that one.

Ive had more problems with the mac client in the past 2 weeks than I have ever had playing this game before. Crashes frequently and also has frequent screen glitches (like blinking icons etc.). Just crashed in the last cutscene of s story instance….which I now have to completely Redo.

TP doesn’t load properly and the moment I exit the TP, the game freezes and I’m unable to even force quit the application. After force restarting my computer, and attempting to reopen the game, it freezes again around 10 seconds after I’ve opened the application itself. Been going on for a few weeks, and has gotten worse after the patch. I even tried restarting my laptop 15 times last night to no avail. I then even tried a full wipe and restore of my computer to rule out any software issues with my Mac, and after reinstalling the application, it still does it.

I thought this would be over after the last update, but it still happens.

Any time I enter an area with a lot of players, the game freezes, then crashes (though my friend tells me my avatar remains in-game while it’s frozen, running in place until my game crashes). I thought it was Halloween Event specific, but it happened again in the Edge of the Mists (right as a big battle was starting too).

TP crashes/freezes my game every 2-5 times I open it, regardless of whether it’s from an NPC or not, requiring a force quit or computer restart to get back in game, I experience the same game window darkening, but it doesn’t always correlate with this problem. It also seems to have gotten slightly worse with the living story release, but that could be my imagination.

I’m having issues now as well, fps dropped from 20-30 to 1-4, turning reflections off helps a lot and turning them back on tanks the frame rate immediately.

yesterday the game stopped when viewing a vista, had to force quit.

the map’s loading is bad at the moment as well

uhm, did you change the mac beta build with the lost chest hotfix?

I gained 10 fps and I’m sitting at comfortable 40 now with some things turned down in a less frequented map!
just did some defending in the silverwastes with everything on high (character models as well) and reflections set all again. I was getting around 20-30fps which is insane.
I’m also playing on 1440x now instead of 1280x

so, I don’t know what happened but everythings works fine, including the opening of the map.

I’m hoping too… I think my issue is related to how many players need to be rendered on a screen at once. Which makes me concerned I won’t be able to play any of the new season 2 living story b/c I can’t party up.

Plenty have said this, threads have been posted, we’ve been demoralised to the point of not voicing this anymore. Utterly ridiculous it is but just take a look at this website, most recent posts on a thread has no timestamp from the threads tree but the biggest crime is that the forum search does not work at all! A 2 year + game and they can’t even get that right, in many ways for some rudimentary features Anet have proven to be very unprofessional indeed. It took over a year to even have a LFG tool, which is very basic anyway.

The UI for traits, hero, the level up system and old tp were all better personally for me pre feature pack too, the megaserver system is not much to boast about either.

If Anet are serious about getting out of beta they do need to communicate with us unpaid beta testers far better, I wonder how many of the ‘adopted devs’ played alongside us OS X players, if none they really need to so they see how poorly they have done in some respects. (15 days since any staff response here and I’m pretty sure at least the tp issues are unrelated to any system specs)

I really don’t think that’s the case Yifang.8260, for ArenaNet is trying their hardest to help out the backend engine that runs the Mac Beta, and that is Cider by Transgaming. It is a graphics “interrupter” for the Mac platform that runs most of the games that have been ported over from Windows. I’m sure every time they want to bring it out of beta, they end up getting large issues arising like the recent graphics issue that is affecting most people.

I think you’re a little misguided to fight their corner, for certain their support team is inadequate for the support of Mac users so I do not believe they are pushing themselves to better the Mac experience either. Just take the forums and the very few and far between actual feedback we get, if this were the case those like you wouldn’t have to post in defence of the company as they should be doing that themselves and haha another tp crash.

This is getting kittening ridiculous. I stop playing for a week, expecting to log on and continue crafting bolt because I mean hey, surely they fixed this problem that is entirely their fault to begin with, and what happens? I see that I have money waiting for me in the TP and I decide to open it up, and the kitten doesn’t load, and of course after I exited the Tp my game froze again forcing me to force restart my computer. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS DOING? It’s kittening mid November and the poisonous update you guys put out and forced us to download in October is still a shiny piece of flaming dog kitten.

What browser is your default browser?

I don’t know if this is causing it but I keep having a java error pop up when I’m using Chrome, which I had set for default. I also had the TP crash happening frequently. I switched my default browser to Firefox and I haven’t had it crash once.

Just wondering if that’ll help other people too. If the TP is accessing a browser to pull up the data it might be that it’s using your default browser to do it and accessing java which is having problems right now with the latest update.

I’ve had Firefox as my main browser for a long time yet I still get crashes regularly if the browser is open at the same time as tp, and I don’t really have any Java-related problems or error messages. Any communication from the devs regarding this matter would be most welcome as it’s starting to get ridiculous now.

I sent a couple bugs about client crashing on Teq, but have not had a reply yet.

I had a crash today and looked up some of my logs. around the time i got this message:

Chrome? Hideous… Safari’s my main and from experience it’s the most stable browser, Firefox has many issues though for some things such as Flash it’s more reliable than Safari that often has stuttering problems with clips in HD. Had my 1st tp crash since this latest patch so of course Anet didn’t fix it, I really do wonder why they claimed to have last month, yes has been a month nearly!

For sure that’s the right direction to go, it’s internet application related, from my experience as well browsers have the biggest effect, even Teamspeak and mailbox has some, Skype doesn’t seem to. Note though my Safari has not been cleaned for over 2 years, browser history could have some bearing seeing that some people were able to fix their tps by deleting temp files. I echo all sentiments of frustration over this, september was my worst GW2 month by far and most of october was fine but since that Halloween update I’d be spared from any tp crashes at most 3days, not acceptable!

Yes indeed more communication with us would solve the problems faster as we’re the actual end users, whatever troubleshooting Anet attempts with their own staff won’t be as effective as actually drawing on the experiences and issues the actual customers are suffering….

Tip for Anet, when testing to see if you have truly fixed the crashing problem, deliberately kill the processes that run the tp and if no crash happens after several minutes even then you may be onto something… Shouldn’t need to be said but I do wonder…. Make sure also to test all supported OS X’s, Lion, Cougar, Mavericks and Yosemite but better still do communicate with the actual end users of the game more!

To add to browsers and the game not running well in tandem, since September’s feature pack it’s much slower to load the game with a browser open and often the game refuses to even startup with a browser open, I played the game from April last year and it certainly wasn’t that unplayable then, something with the last feature’s very rotten.

This is extremely annoying… I haven’t been able to enjoy the game at all since that stupid patch because of this issue. I dread opening the TP because my game freezes almost every time. Like, I’d rather go fight Giganticus Lupicus naked with a level 1 torch than open the TP. I’ve lost lots of gold salvaging items instead of selling them. How much time do you people need to fix this issue?!

Game still crashes about one out of every five times I try to change zones. These crashes don’t require force-quitting from Activity Monitor or rebooting…just annoying, especially since so many of the zone changes are in WvW and I wind up either being well behind the zerg once I get back in, or, when I’m running in a havoc group the group has to wait for me.

Hi Lacey. Thank you for continuing to try to fix this problem. I would like to add my voice to the crowd, as I too am having my game crash nearly every time I access the Trading Post and have been for a while now. I wasn’t having to restart my computer to relaunch until today, however.

Mac Book Pro, 15-inch, Early 2011.
OSX 10.9.5
4 GB RAM
2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Intel HD Graphics 3000 348 MB AND AMD Radeon HD 6750M

I have yet to try the browser switching thing that some people have suggested (my default is Chrome) but I’d really rather not have to change something like that for this game. Also that shouldn’t have any effect on the ability to restart the game? So I’ll be waiting on ANet to fix the patch.

I didn’t have a big issue with the BLTP causing my game to freeze until yesterday. Prior to yesterday every so often the TP would only have a loading issue and I’d be able to close that window and reopen it and it’d load fine afterwards. As of yesterday if I try to go to BLTP whether by the icon anywhere in map or via talking to a BLT merchant (lol..blt merchant… XD oi..) the window is stuck in perpetual loading and freezes up the game client. I cannot click on anything in the client when the TP window is open or it freezes, which means I can’t close the TP window either. Ultimately I end up having to Force Quit the client application in order to continue playing. This is not acceptable, particularly seeing as I had just gotten gems to use in the store. The BLTP works fine on my friend’s PC, though.

EDIT: apparently if I make sure the only application running is the GW2 client, then the BLTP works fine for me. sigh great. Good thing I have a tablet and smartphone to access the Internet with when I play….

Can I point out that once again the last dev response in this forums from Lacey (or anyone else for that matter) was one month ago… It’s not like people have stopped having issues with the client!
