“Well fix it!”
her response not mine :P
This has been a long standing issue since the client was launched. Sorry to say there’s no fix in sight.

try deleting the GW2 folder inside of application support (don’t delete the app! just the preferences!) your keys will be retained so don’t worry, but you’ll have to reset the graphics settings. hopefully it works better!

Don’t do this if you don’t have Retna display. Someone tried telling me this and I didn’t work at all.
Something I have noticed while playing GW2 with my Mac is that the sluggish responses you describe usually take place during prolonged periods of play time or client use. Repeated use of the client without completely rebooting the computer sometimes causes this as well. To combat this, I have resorted to using bash commands through the “Terminal”. The best way to immediately free up any memory she may have reserved by phantom programs is to open the Terminal and type “purge”, which will remove any excess sources draining the cpu. Mac OS has a habit of keeping this reserved memory as a more efficient method of quickly accessing commonly used programs, but for clients such as GW2 this becomes a hindrance by unnecessarily draining memory. To keep a better eye on such behavior, have them check their “Activity Monitor” for any programs that are quietly siphoning memory unnoticed (DO NOT MEDDLE WITH ACTIVITIES CARELESSLY). Hope any of this helps.
I use the solution posted by Mnemesis and that usually fixes my sluggish issues. I actually have a macro for it, so it’s a one button fix (yep, it’s that bad). Also, watch that her system isn’t getting too hot, that can cause sluggish behavior as well.
As for deleting the contents of the gw2 folder, that may not work for this issue in particular, but there are settings in the config file that can contribute to some graphics issues, sometimes it does help for that. But don’t play with the config file unless you know what you’re doing.
Lastly, the gw2 folder CAN fix issues with the trading post. I wasn’t able to purchase gems after the september update (would get all the way to the end of purchase, then get a parsing error). Deleting the contents and letting the client reload them fixed it completely, I even have less unresponsive, non-loading t kitten ues (a client restart fixes that most times now). Haven’t had a gem purchase problem since.
