For gaming in general, a Mac with a dedicated graphics card is preferable over one with integrated Intel graphics.
For Guild Wars specifically, the game is also very reliant on the main processor, so higher-clocked processors are better. Number of cores is less important, chosing an i7 over an i5 is only a small improvement (due to clock speed, not due to cores).

With current MacBookPros, the models with seperate Nvidia graphics are fine (the non-retina version, unless you need that for something else) .
Both iMac lines are good, as long as you upgrade the graphics card to the highest one available for either size.

If you’re looking for a cheaper deal with a last-gen model, still look for one with dedicated graphics, and if possible also the upgraded graphics card.

You will also get a significantly better framerate when running it on Windows via BootCamp, so a larger harddrive to be able to use both systems is helpful.

Thank you very much for the answer. Do you play with bootcamp? What do you mean with significantly better? How much do you imagine?

I used to play on an older machine that was a bit closer to the minimum speccs, now I use a new iMac. On both machines, the Windows version ran about 20% faster, even with Windows allowing for higher quality settings.
And yes, if Windows, use Bootcamp. Parallels or VMWare are not suited for games.

Never owned a mini. First machine was a self-built PC running OSX, roughly equivalent to a 2007 MacPro. Current is a brand-new 27inch iMac with upgrades.

A more reasonable idea is playing in windowed mode. Alsok dont keep your screen res at 1440. The lower the more fps youll get!

To be honest you need a Mac with a real graphics card to play games. The 13’’ only comes with integrated graphics, that’s not enough to get decent performance in modern games.

Definitely a dedicated graphics card is superior to integrated graphics. However the Mac Beta Client is officially supported and the minimum system requirements are published here: https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1119
So if your machine meets those requirements and the game is running at unplayable framerates I would open a support ticket.

Lilsteele, the Intel HD 4000 is an integrated graphics card that performs just fine—the same or little better than my discrete card (330M).

Lilsteele, the Intel HD 4000 is an integrated graphics card that performs just fine—the same or little better than my discrete card (330M).

Yeah, intel is improving their integrated cards quite a bit, but still, according to your report, the newest 2012 integrated GPU (the HD-4000) performs on par (or slightly better) with a 2010 low end GPU (the 330M).

Now, the HD-4000 was a significant step up from the HD-3000 that drives most of the 13’’ MBPs from 2011. So while the HD-3000 is listed as minimum playable graphics card, I wouldn’t expect the world.

The OP asked what Mac he needs to play the game on high settings. I think for that you really want a dedicated graphics card, ideally a 2012 model, and probably a windows partition to run the native client.
