So, its my first time playing any GW games and loving it so far. Just 2 problems.
The first problem is technical (i assume). I downloaded GW2 last night, got to play a good few hours. This morning i jumped on for a little bit before work, but about 20min in my Desktop turned itself off.

So the first thing that comes to mind is heat, PSU or broken game. I always monitor heat and it was perfectly fine while i was playing, so that leaves me with PSU or the game. I am pretty sure i easily meet the system reqs.

Specs:
GeForce GTX 680 (Gigabyte)
AMD FX-6100 x6 (AMD)
8Gb – 2×4Gb DDR3 (Corsair-RAM)
700w (Thermaltake-PSU)
Western Digital Black Edition 1TB (Western Digital-HDD)
M5A97 (ASUS Motherboard)
4x 120mm (Corsair-Fans)

The heat did not exceed 40 degrees. I play on the highest possible settings, but it did shut down even on the lowest settings (test) just took about 3 hours of gameplay instead of 20min.

Do you have a crash log?
Should be called ArenaNet.log or Crash.dmp

When you say “the heat did not exceed 40 degrees” I’m guessing you mean Celsius, but my question is, what heat and where? CPU, gpu, internal chassis temp? What exactly are you monitoring? It is possible to still have the system shut down if only one component is overheating. The game will NEVER cause this. However, it still sounds like an overheating issue, otherwise, you need to run a hardware diagnostic since bad hardware can cause these symptoms. Bad ram, bad processor, bad motherboard, or not enough power from your psu can cause this. Dust build up can cause this also, open your system and give it a thorough cleaning around heat sinks and fans.

Do you have any additional components installed (cd drives, input panels for digital sound, etc)? A 700w should power what you have though I think.

Last question, are you having any noticeable lag or frame rate dips prior to the random shut down? Sometimes it presents itself if gpu or CPU are overheating. (I’m lead to believe it’s possibly overheating based on your description of lasting 3 hours on lowest settings)
