The new drivers in the 10.8.2 seem to increase the performance on the retina MBP quite a bit. A quick note: the reflection option in the graphics settings seems to be a major performance killer (hopefully the dev team can look into it). No I am getting steady 20 fps on native(!!!) 2800×1800 resolution with almost everything high, reflections off and shadows low (high quality filtering also disabled). With 1680×1050 or 1920×1200 it is playable, almost as good as with Bootcamp. Although, there are still major performance problems when rotating the view (issues with updating VBOs in Cider maybe?)

BTW, why there is no 1920×1200? All I get is a weird 2048×1280

Yes!! I just tested it here at work after reading your post, and i can confirm , 10.8.2 brings a huge performance compared to 10.8.1 for MBPr . I got to run it yesterday prior to update with the same settings in the busy start point of asuras at 10-15 fps , now im getting steadies 25-30 ( a lot more playable and enjoyable) .

But still theres some problems like the OP said with camera turning , anytime i turn my camera i get a sudden drop rate in fps , going as low as 1 digits. And the reflection seens now to be the only performance hog to me now in the options, everything else is maxed.

I run it at 1680×1050.

Interesting, I installed 10.8.2 last night but had not played on that version yet. I had played on my Late 2011 17" on 10.8.1 and found the frame rates acceptable, 32-37 running 1920×1200 with mostly High settings but the checkboxes turned off. I’m interested to try under the new version and see how it looks. I am very happy to have a Mac client!

as far as i can tell any improvements where purely for RMBP

I’ve noticed some pretty dramatic performance increased in my daily play since 10.8.2 on my 2009 iMac. At least 10 fps more than previous.

I have played for about an hour tonight, I see about 5fps gained. Granted it’s still about 15-20 frames less than what I get in Bootcamp BUT it’s worth it to me to have a Mac Client. The game is playable and usually low 30fps +.

My performance is slightly increased with the new OSX 10.8.2 update as well. hopefully it will continue moving in that direction. Until then i’m bootcamping.
