285 gtx just not cutting it
Need to post your system specs.
Hi Dildozer,
When you say that your GTX285 is “not cutting it” what do you mean? are you regarding the FPS? if so what is your current FPS with the GTx285? what is it that makes you feel that the graphics card requires upgrading?
Also it would help if you posted the rest of your computer specifications.
the 500 series cards seem to be getting good reviews with this game, but just to mention I also have a friend that plays on a nvidia 9600GT and is currently happy with the game performance, so the issue might not be your graphics card.
If you can could you please run the game advisor tool from Anet and upload the results here, just to rule out any issues before you choose to upgrade your hardware.
512GB Samsung 950pro | 2TB SATA-3 | AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
i would recommend a 560ti if you can stretch to it, it is the best bang for buck 500 series card.
EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad
CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |
I would suggest you look at the GTX 650 or GTX 660, they pack quite a punch for their price points, especially the GTX 660.

There is also a GTX 650 Ti coming out:

I’m curious as well. I have GTX275 myself and it’s been performing quite well.
GTX260 216 cores here, pushing 100% since day one.

GTX 560 Ti
Why not check out some of what AMD has to offer ? An HD7850 or HD7870 have great performance in GW2 and don’t cost an arm or leg lols. Just something to think about.
You guys are missing the fact that he said he as a $100 budget. All the cards suggested are more than that.
If you only have $100, try this:

or:

I had this card, and was able to run the game at medium-high settings, and it ran great there (I ran it at the auto-detect, but added ultra shadows which only hit me for about 1fps). Running the game at 1920×1200, by the way.
I upgraded to a 7870 later on, but the 6750 is a great bang-for-the-buck card.
BTW, the non-ddr5 (cheaper) version does NOT require a PCI-Express addon plug. If your PSU doesn’t have those (they’re the little six-prong plug made for PCI-E devices that need more power), you want the first one.
He’d actually be better off with a 6770 or 6870 performance wise, I’m using an HD4890 and am getting a pretty steady 40-50+ FPS with settings set to high at 1440×900, so if he could save up a bit more for either of those, he’s better off. only issue I have is that FPS drops to sometimes the mid 20s in big battles, which is why I suggested the 7850-7870s, an like I said If he can save up to get them he’s better off doing so, preferably the 7870, its really the best bang for the buck atm even to the mid range 6ks :/.
bought a gtx 650 instead because the sales dude recommended it over the 550 ti….as to the 285’s performance, my sons been complaining for awhile that his games run like a slideshow…didnt even attempt to play gw2 with it because on my 295gtx it was abysmal. I upgraded mine to a 670 gtx and its been excellent. unfortunatley I didnt have the money to buy my son one now that he’s decided to try gw2 out else i would have got us cards in between the 2. thx all for the help
