3 months and still the same bugs?
I hate to say it since this game is free from people that used it on a PC and was able to download it to Mac forget getting answers right away. As for me my system is to slow since its a 2006 model, its just hard to part ways with a tower compared to an iMac or laptop. I’m not seeing any changes anytime soon. Be thankful you can still play at all, they didn’t have to release it on the Mac at all ( witch they should have waited ) but its free for some people, so its done when its done….now where have I heard that line before!!
Speaking from a MBP owners point of view GW2 for the mac was not free for me. I do not own a PC and purchased the game only when the mac version came out. So personally I paid full price for a broken version.
I have tried the “delete GW2/Application Support” folder mentioned in a few places on this forum to no avail. GW2 crashes/freezes/black-grey screen for me after 5-15 minutes of game play or on occasion when I am changing zones or using waypoints.
Would have been nice for them to have fixed this common bug before the christmas rush and all us new players who now have a negative first impression.
It gets really tiring when people say things like “they didn’t have to release it on the mac in the first place”. Sure, they didn’t, and they aren’t obligated to. But they also aren’t obligated to make any PC updates or world events or have 100% uptime or ban bots or let you keep all your in-game possessions every time you log out. Not one thing they do is required.
Everything goes back to making money – they make money if they can supply a good product. If they don’t have a good product, people don’t pay them. lack of updates and a poorly functioning platform is not a good product.
That said, I have relatively few complaints about the mac version. But I do know lots of other people do have problems that need to be addressed.
Of course, when I say “need”, I mean “If they want to have people continue to play and buy gems with money and recommend it to friends and make any additional sales”

Yeah, it’s a big huge cop out when people say they don’t have to release a Mac client. Like ArenaNet is doing us a favor by allowing us to buy their game? Lets remember here just who is doing whom a favor. We are the consumer, ArenaNet owes us for our dollar not the other way around.
We are getting a shoddy port and we are paying for that. There are many people that have bought GW2 knowing that they could play it on their Mac. Why should they have to suffer through the myriad of bugs and performance issues the Mac client has when they are paying the same price for the game? When a company sells a product or service that product or service needs to work properly and this product does not on the Mac.
I can’t recommend this game to my Mac friends (majority of my friends because I work in the design field) due to the poor performance. It’s even more disheartening that we rarely hear anything from the devs here in this thread. It’s like they just threw this port out there to grab some quick cash but they don’t really care about the quality of the experience we are getting.
But how much do they really fix on the PC side? It seems all of the fixes I’ve heard of them doing are with game content, not bugs in the application. All the bugs on the mac application probably stem from the different ways macs and PCs handle applications.

Since this game uses a wrapper, the optimizations and work will go into the Window’s build first, with the Mac version getting that version to optimize from. Anet isn’t likely wanting to have two builds of the game (barring some minor differences I imagine), so they’ll have to go with Window’s first. They have fixed plenty of bugs on the Window’s client, and I’m sure that they are working on getting those on OS X fixed. In some ways, bug fixing with a port is harder than with a native client.
EDIT: For what it’s worth, I feel the pain of those still having issues. I’ve switched over entirely to Apple Computers (necessary for work), and my iMac struggles to get reasonable frame rates. It is playable for the most part luckily.

Most of the issues with the “Mac client” are due to the fact that it’s a cider wrapper. These issues can’t be fixed by patching the Windows client because the issues we are having on the Mac side are due to the Cider wrapper.

Well until they make a native Mac client I wont be recommending this game to any of my Mac friends. There’s just no excuse these days to not have both native Windows and Mac clients. We can all at least look forward to ESO which will have native Windows and Mac clients on day one.
Seriously, can we please can an update for the Mac client? We haven’t seen any support since October and ANet won’t even take the time to post on this forum anymore. It’s starting to getting really frustrating.
I’ve created a thread in the general tech support thread in hopes that we can get a response there. The devs still seem to be active in that thread unlike here where we’re obviously forgotten or being ignored. :https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/3-months-and-still-the-same-bugs/first#post1100958
I have to echo the views here, the game crashes usually 2-3 times each session. It’s the dstbits thing I reported before but it’s still doing the same. There has been zero progress on this serious bug.
It looks like it’s been a case of, put out a cider wrapper and we will sell a few more copies to mac users unwilling to go the bootcamp direction. Once they have done that they seem to have left it and walked away.
It’s a real shame but this is the way it looks.
Having the same dstbits issues as the rest here. It’s making me frustrated to not be able to play WvWvW which is the reason i bought the game in the first place.
Says in the error message it sends a report to Anet, perhaps should take a vacation from work for a while amd just make my game crash 24/7 so the reports keep piling up.
I have the Macbook Pro with Retina. 2.6 GHz i7, 16gb of RAM and the Nvidia GT650m. For the most part everything has worked fine. I had an issue on the second day where I had my FPS drop to around 24. I followed the post on reseting the SMC and my frames have been fine since.
However, the issue I find annoying is the World Map lag issue. I can not figure out what triggers it except that I think it happens after I get killed and have to spawn from one of the point markers. This is the only correlation I have found. I then have to restart my computer and sometimes have to reset the SMC again to get it to go away.
If anyone else notices that the Map glitches up right after a respawn, post a reply to my post.
I think if we really want them to work on fixing this Mac client then we need to actively collaborate our issues. If we make it easy for their developers(by telling them where to look), they might actually fix these issues.
here is a link for anyone who doesn’t know about the SMC reset.
