Hi I’m new to guildwars, recently upon achieving level 70 I decided that getting the heart of thorns expansion should make things a little easier and provide a more fulfilling experience.

strangely enough, before buying heart of thorns the options which would prevent me before e.g. Trading post, displayed that I had to simply purchase heart of thorns and it would allow me to conduct trade.

could someone please explain what is going on? because now the message has changed, before it was 1 green tick for something to do with account verification i think and a red circle saying i had to upgrade, but now its a green tick on the upgrade but a red circle on verification saying i need to wait 4 days.

could i have stumbled across some kind of bug? i thought it would be instant access to the expansion pack (or even the base game).

Would love to help you, but I can’t even find how I can upgrade to HOT.
Only the register new account thing is mentioned.
Would even give that a try and see if I can link it, but I can’t request a new password, the send button doesn’t work.

Not all features unlock immediately. After applying the key, it takes something like 3 days to unlock (when upgrading from a free account).

You either buy HoT within the game, or apply a HoT key to your account:

It is five days for many features, including using the Trading Post (the tool-tip has a typo). Some features take more time, and are applied to any new account (whether upgrading or not) and are in place to help combat RMTs, bots, etc.

The buy expansion is there if you don’t.

that’s rather strange, I would have thought most bots being F2P based would have been cut off from the start by the limit on what they can do. That being said a determined gold farmer wouldn’t have a problem waiting 4 days it would simply delay the inevitable.
But, that’s just my opinion. Thanks for the answer.

as an update to anyone wondering the status of what I can do or not:

I can
- use /map chat
- use all f2p features
- get daily login rewards
I can Not
- Use fully use trading post (items are blocked like for f2p)
- Convert Money into Gems
- Use any heart of Thorns content (even though I paid for it)

Kind of upsetting, I was expecting to pay and play not pay and wait 4 days and then hopefully have a go at playing. It is what it is, but I’d like to throw a suggestion out there to remove this or even have some form of verification in place to get it removed for certain kinds of people (non-gold farmers) because it doesn’t make an awful lot of sense.

I can understand a delay to the Trading Post and converting gold to gems but I do not understand why you can’t access Heart of Thorns content. Have you contacted Customer Support?

Nothing is listed under Personal Story? Bummer, if so. You would need to discuss the issue with the CS Team, if that is the case.

Hi there, the reason the 4-5 day wait is applied is because many people bought the game, used the trade post etc then refunded the game for their money back and continued to abuse the system, all should unlock slowly over the next few days

Are you lvl 80?…. My version of HoT says I have to be that lvl to access the content. Hope this helps.
