Q:
512MB or 1GB
1GB, Textures, etc are stored in VRAM so the more you have the better.
go for the 1Gb for sure
Ofc the more the better, but i was wondering if there is some discrete difference or if someone noticed something.
Example: a certain MMO in a low fantasy environment use exactly 520MB of GPU RAM, no matter if the GPU RAM available is 1GB or 2GB or more. So i can say that 512 is exactly not enough and 1GB is enough.

From my understanding, for higher quality textures and farther view distance, more GPU RAM is necessary. Therefore with 1 GB RAM you’ll be able to bump up both of those settings (for example). I’m not sure which other MMO you’re talking about, but I have no doubt that GW2 makes use of greater than 512K GPU RAM at times, though from what I can find on google it hovers around 550 for most users.
For what it’s worth, I play on a 2012 MBP Retina with the 650M 1GB, and it runs gorgeously in Bootcamp and very decently in OSX. IMO If you’re already spending a bunch of cash on a new MBP, just go for the extra GPU RAM.
If you can afford it and you’re looking to play these type of games the GPU is usually going to be the bottleneck. You’re going to want to get the best one you can.
actually this game will never make use of that much Vram, but you should have the 1gig anyway, its kinda a waste to buy a computer based on the needs of only one video game
