Hey Buttercup :-) Very nice computer, what about the case you use and the cooling system, would be nice to know ? I hope you didn’t built that computer only for GW2, because you would get the same performance with less hardware. I built a new computer and this is what i have:
Palit GTX 970 Jetstream
i7-4790 4GHz
8GB RAM
Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD
ASRock Z87 Killer Fatal1ty
Be Quiet! Silent Base 800 Black Edition
Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 650W
My CPU is at 50°C and GPU at 60°C when i’m playing (Fan only turns on at 60°C for GPU that’s why) and fans are on silence-mode otherwise it would look different but i like to keep my computer ‘’Be Quiet’’ hehe ^^. When i’m not playing CPU is at 28-30 °C. Be Quiet hardware is perfect, you will not hear the computer, even if you are playing, i love it! Also for what 16GB RAM ? You know that you don’t really need that much RAM right ? I’m getting the same performance as you for less money. At some point you don’t need better hardware, the game will need a better optimization. You will not get a steady 60FPS in a big event or a big fight in WvW because that is not possible, even with your or a better computer. And how i know that you will not get a steady 60FPS all the time ? There are several threads abouth that and a good friend of mine does have a better computer than yours and like i said, no steady 60FPS in big WvW fights or big events. That’s why i hope you didn’t built that computer just for GW2. But still a very nice computer if you also play other games :-) Have a nice day!

Thx! I’ve got a Phanteks Enthoo Luxe case and a Scythe mugen 4 fan. The rampage extreme V comes with an OC panel that I had built in, so I can see temps and fanspeeds at all times. Temps are 32-33 degrees outside GW2 and about 53 inside GW2. It’s a very silent PC. The motherboard also comes with software to manually adjust your fans at any time, or through simple presets.
I did tests in events like Jormag, Triple Trouble and WvW (full map, for which I queued first), and I rarely ever dip below 45 fps, always on max settings of everything. So that’s the lowest FPS, but no lag. Outside big fights it’s about 60 fps on a full WvW map. I’m currently back in the heart of the mists again, at about 130-140 fps.
Hey :-) Would it be ok if you can do a video with nvidia shadowplay from that events and WvW in fights and link the video. I can only believe it when i see it because there are people with better computers in the forum and they get fps drops below 30 in big events and big WvW fights. thanks ^^
A 4690k, 4790K, and your 5820K will all perform about the same paired with a GTX980 for this game, since they all use the same core. Whats going to set them apart is their max OC potential. I would say run them all at 4.0Ghz and you will see the same performance across the board.
so you dont need to drop 2800+ on a 5820K rig to get top performance out of this game.
Sir I had 3570k which was running at 4.7ghz and that was not performing anywhere near my new x99 build I can say that as a long time i5 user. Now im able to run the game with all the settings cranked up to best appearance with FXAA and max culling settings @ 1440p and it doesnt break sweat. ~45fps on theresome blob fights rarely drops below 40. Its almost the double lowest fps I got out of my 3570k. Not even mentioning the significant increase in +overall system responsiveness and ability to run lotsa apps in the background without being worried. Yes it’s quite alot more expensive than a devil’s canyon i5 but I never regreted paying the premium to get my hands on the x99 platform. I’m not exactly sure whether it’s the larger cache or the ddr4 that this platform has over 3rd/4th gen i5/i7s but the game obviously loves it.
