64bit Client
I read that as “alienate half the player base!”
Not gonna’ happen. It would require a rewrite of the game engine.

Clearly there’s no such thing as a 32-bit client and 64-bit client of the same programing being able to coexist with eachother…
(not to mention there’s very little reason nowadays for anyone not to run x64 OS’s on modern hardware; and if you can handle GW2, you likely have modern-enough hardware)
We need DX11 more than 64-bit imo, but both would be welcome. Perhaps someday…
I’m interested in what the OP believes a 64-bit client will brings to a game in terms of added functionality?

That is exactly what this game needs. The engine needs to be rebuilt from scratch because this one simply isn’t cutting it.

As of the last patch, i can’t run the game without it crashing and tech support tells me it’s because i need to upgrade to 64 bit, so it seems to me like it sure as kitten ain’t a 32 bit client any more.

It’s a 32bit client that is currently experiencing a syndrome I call “memory hog”… Problem is 32bit windows can only recognise up to 3.25~3.5gb of ram and that is limited even more by how much windows lets programs use since it needs a healthy chunk of that memory for itself. Depending on your OS, there is some relief for some people. I’ll find the link and post it for you here with an edit to this post.
Here it is:
(quoted from another user)
"
Those of you on 32 bit operating systems can try adding the 3 gig memory switch. I don’t know if this works on Windows 7, but it will on XP and Vista. I have no way of knowing if this will solve your GW2 ‘out of memory’ issues, but it [theoretically] will.:

Edit: Ignore the stuff about “DFX+/Fusion cache limit” it has nothing to do with GW2.

It’s true that the difference between a 32-bit and 64-bit OS is the ability to access a very large amount of physical system memory. The 32-bit OS can only address 4GB of memory space and PC hardware reserves some of that space for itself. Now 64-bit OS do have a physical memory limit but set for marketing segmentation. The 64-bit Win 7 Home Premium editions are limited to 16GB of physical memory while the Pro and up editions are limited to 192GB. 64-bit Win 8 is 128GB max while the Pro version is 512GB max. This is actual physical system memory and the 64-bit OS will be able to see all of it.
The downside of this switch on a 32-bit OS is that the OS has less memory resources set aside for itself so there is an increase change that the OS will crash due to running out of memory resources for itself. Not the extra USER memory isn’t available for an app unless the app was built to recognize when the switch when turned on. No idea if GW2 is built that way.

A good rule of thumb on 32bit OS, if you know an app is memory/resource intensive, don’t tempt fate by running a lot of extraneous programs, web browsers included (also hoggish lol).
It sucks! But these are just the limitations of having so little ram available.
I’ve decided to bite the bullet and buy the full 64 bit os as well as extra ram (now that i can use it)
