Madamber – Level 80 Guardian
Guild Leader of TSL (www.shadowlegion.net)
First, I run my computer with 3 monitors. And I have the game playing on one with graphics turned way up. Generally I run around at 60-70fps. When I turn fraps on it’s preset to 29.97fps.
When I have all that and run into a zerg my fps sometimes dips to 15fps. Would a second video card increase that, or is the issue likely something else? (IE: Processor or Server based?).
I don’t want to go buy a second 680GTX and find out that there is going to be no increase in quality.
Your FPS problems in zergs is a CPU bottleneck, a second graphics card won’t help at all (you aren’t even making good use of the one you have in that situation).
You halved the fps with fraps yourself and now you complain. Go into options in fraps

It depends on what’s been bottlenecked. If you have everything maxed (including supersampling) and WvW model quality and count on highest, then yes, a second GTX 680 will help because you’re running on 3 monitors. Otherwise, you might need to look into locking your CPU higher.
Also, don’t use fraps! Find a different program for recording.
I have been thinking of tossing in another GTX 680 into SLI. With supersampling and everything cranked I still get in the 90% usage range on my card. How is your experience with SLI’d 680’s with GW2 Optimus?

Your problem is a CPU bottleneck as people have previously mentioned. Do not buy a second card unless you are a fan of spending money needlessly. I can see the problem if you were playing across all 3 monitors, but since you’re only using 1 to game, you shouldn’t have a problem with a GTX 680.
I run a single 42" 4-4-4 chroma TV with one GTX 680 oc/oc again and I still get 90%+ useage most of the time. Does anyone that uses SLI with GW2 notice a difference(could even be different models ie. 670, 560ti etc)
I have GTX560TI SLI,and it’s kinda hard to describe, you dont get a massive boost like you can get in alot of other games. But the load is being spread out pretty evenly across my gpu’s reducing the heat alo, since when using a single card my gpu starts screaming and getting to about 70c,but with sli enabled they both hover around 55 – 60c.Now if i have sli enabled and i stand still watching the MF in LA i have the exact same fps as when sli is disabled ( it differs alot area to area ).
But when you enter WvW you will notice a difference especially in the bigger fights,i think im having about 10fps more with using sli in these circumstances. So yes,the difference is noticable when there’s alot going on your screen.

The game scales decently with two GPUs in most areas of the game. Exceptions would be Lion’s Arch and WvW zones where my FPS just tanks from the CPU issues.
50 fps with one card and 85 fps with 2 cards, looking across to the asura gates from the LA beach.
Looks like I will be looking to get another GTX 680 lol apparently I would need another PSU as well
