I have a simple question about something. I was on the Frostgorge Champ train earlier and someone (or a group) was killing the Drake. It was apparently ‘out of train order’, when this entire farming group (all one guild who is actually from another server) all threatened to report that person. Why? Because they were playing the game. Even though I wasn’t getting the Drake either, it kind of infuriated me that a group as large as that (at least 15 people) were all threatening to report that person (or people).

Has this game seriously come down to this? Are people seriously spam reporting people for playing a game that they paid for? Would they seriously be punished for playing the game like THEY want to play it?

In my eyes, this is purely ridiculous. Yea, so I miss getting Drake too.. But come on! Show me a rule that says we have to follow certain player-implemented-trains.

My question to the GW support team is this: Can that person (or people) seriously get banned for that?

As I’d gotten a whisper from someone else on the map regarding this, I figured ‘what better way to get them an answer than to check on the forums!’

I’ve attached a screenshot of one of the threats made on map chat

(If I do not have the right forum venue, please direct me to the appropriate one!)

Please blur the names in the screenshot or remove it. It’s not allowed to show names here on the forum.

Other then that, when a report comes in they look at the account. If nothing is found, nothing will happen. So just a report won’t do anything.

A couple of us were just curious because we didn’t know what would happen if this huge group all got together to report a person (or people) for some random accusation, lol.

The reporting wouldn’t be 1 person spam reporting, but a group of 15-20 people reporting one or two individuals for killing a flippin’ champion ‘out of order’, lol. I’m sure the report would be lied on, because playing the game isn’t against the rules.

Yes that’s what the game has become. However I think it’s always funny that others threatening you for taking a champion out of it’s rotation. I wouldn’t worry about that, have them report you. Nothing is going to happen, it’s not against the ToS to play the game. But of course if you want to jump on the Kindergarten Train that’s how I call that all the time, just report them for threatening you. Now both parties bothered the support and things that are actually need to be done won’t get any attention. Good Job Guys lol.

Oh I never reported anyone. Submitting useless tickets for such nonsense is ridiculous and a waste of time, hence why I came to the forums for my question I’d just hate to see people being banned or getting in trouble from having an entire guild report them for playing the game, lol. I can’t believe how much of a hissy fit people throw if someone kills Drake before Wurm. Not to mention, as you said, wasting Support’s time by going through dozens of false reports due to it.

As long as the person being reported didn’t say anything to them that could be considered offensive, ArenaNet will discard the reports when the game logs show that the person(s) did not do what they were reported for doing.

Filing false reports will get people in trouble, especially if the chat logs prove they did the false report maliciously.

The main reason that horrible people state in map chat that they are going to report someone is to get that someone to angrily respond and thus commit an action that can be legitimately reported. If you or someone you know is being threatened by a false report bully, please file a ticket against the threatener for harassment and threats, then put them on your block list. Do not ever respond to them.

Players that kill Champs out of rotation are certainly NOT breaking any rules (but if they know there is a train running in the area, it is rather rude and selfish) and the the idea of reporting players for doing this is simply idiotic. I would HOPE it’s is more of a scare tactic than an actual threat from the player suggesting it (but there are some REALLY obtuse thinkers roaming around Tyria these days….)

It appears in this case as in many others that those running in the train are the ones being rude and selfish because they think all the champs in their train are theirs and theirs alone.

Thank you for all of the responses, especially from Gaile! What I saw in FG was simply appalling. While I agree with you, Brother Grimm, threatening players who don’t play the way that a group wants to play is rude and selfish in itself. When players threaten others with reports enough that those players leave the map or stop playing because they know no better and are in fear of getting in trouble isn’t right one bit. Even used as a scare-tactic is not appropriate, at least in my opinion.

Exactly! About a week ago, a few of my guildmates and I were on the champ train, but due to a bad computer, one of my guildies could not get to majority of the waypoints in time before the champ died. Because of this, we skipped two of the waypoints and went to select champs that we could be sure she would have time to load for. In the process of this, someone killed Drake out of order and the entire group jumped on me and mine over it because we were not there for some of the champs. Not only were we insulted in map chat (and in whisper), but the train continued to accuse us, threaten us, and tried to ‘force’ us to go to all of the champs by hounding us with questions as to why we weren’t at troll.

^This kind of behavior makes me shake my head in disappointment. Often times, it is as if these ‘trains’ think that they own the map that the chain belongs to. That if people who do their own thing is against the rules because we are not following their own. If anyone crosses those rules, the train gets downright nasty, almost to the point of abusive.

And I agree with you completely.

It’s a game. Let’s all have fun and let’s not try to stop others from having fun, too. There are a million options and a thousand playstyles and if we’re even just a little bit considerate and understanding, we can co-exist and each have our fair share of fun in Tyria!

Rude comments should be just “water off a duck’s back” in my opinion. But at some point, it can become harassment, and in those extreme (and thankfully pretty unusual) cases, a player can contact Support to discuss the matter.

Sadly, this really does seem to be a fairly common thing. I have never seen such behavior in the FG train on Sanctum of Rall, they typically seem to be much more laid back and accepting of others, but I see it extremely often in Queensdale. In fact, I have noticed in map chat the champion train harassing new players who took on an encounter to the point where that person will log out and simply never be seen on GW2 again.

I agree 100%. Getting all POed over a situation like this is pointless and childish. Now if it is a known smaller group (or individual) that is intentionally moving ahead of the train on a continual basis, I can see the Train riders getting peeved, but name calling and threats are not the way to handle the situation (to be honest, I’m not sure what can be done).

I don’t think any reasonable person in the train thinks they OWN the champs, but I’m not sure exactly what the person “champ stealing” has to gain (if they ARE doing it to just antagonize and grief the train participants) by not participating in the train. Rewards are NOT diminished and are very obviously attained in a more time efficient manner. There certainly no reason to assume anyone would be “champ stealing” intentionally the first time it happens and the solution is to invite the player via MAP chat to join the train rather than go full out psycho verbal attack on them. Many players narrow mindedly assume everyone knows about Champ Trains and certainly in Queensdale one should assume a new player just MIGHT be unaware of the situation.

This really boils down to the arrogance and maturity level of the player involved. Far too many internet users have grown up in an environment where there are no immediate consequences for being rude and obnoxious, so they feel it’s acceptable to act that way 24/7. Very sad for us all. (note how I refrained from waving my cane and screaming, “You little cyber-whipper-snappers get off of my lawn!!!”)

Honestly, I think people are just being attention seekers. The ones that get dramatic in map chat over people who are “killing out of sequence” and the ones who are trolling the champ train. Both are just wanting attention. Its a big huge “look at me” moment.

The one’s I feel sorry for are people who are just playing the game normally and would rather not see all the drama and immature behavior in map chat.

The statement’s about reporting people are just empty threats. If they report people for playing the game normally or make up something to report about, they will only get themselves into trouble for making false reports.

It’s a kitten conspiracy. Kittens gonna be kittens. All is vain!

Would it be wrong to ask them to kill the wurm or troll out of order instead since i never make it to those in time anyway?

Joking aside, to present something useful, I suggest either making the out of rotation targets scale way more severely (the oak in queensdale can be soloed in 5-10 minutes depending of class for goodness sake), or buff the ones who are dead by the time the 10th man in line arrives in firing distance? (wurm, troll, norn of FGS, and bandit (especially), oak, and spider of the Queensdale circuit?
Basically have a higher starting health pool for all the quickies, scale them very steeply for the first 4 players (to be fair since normal party is 5) and only further buff the ones who last 10 seconds to take at least 30 for those of us who don’t have graphics settings on macro/hotkey?
