Next

Hey guys! I wanted to take a minute to say Hi and introduce myself.

My name is Lacey and if you haven’t guessed already, I am the new’ish Mac specialist. I’m not really new per se as I have been with the tech team for a couple of years now. However, due to there not being anyone with Mac knowledge that was able to post on the forums regularly, they asked if I would step up and keep in contact with y’all. So… here I am.

Now that things are starting to slow down with my regular job duties, I should have some dedicated free time to get in here and work on the forums. You may not see a ton of changes at first, but I am hoping to get this place cleaned up and a bit more organized.

Anyhow, that’s really all I have for now. I will pop in here as time permits to work on organizing the sticky posts a bit as well as answer some of your questions.

Hi Lacey! Welcome!

I’m happy to see a Mac specialist giving some attention to the forums; seems like there’s a habit of us Mac-users getting some attention for a couple weeks, then nothing. T-T Crai~ Seeing you on here gives me a bit more hope though! I look forward to seeing your future posts!

Welcome Lacey.

If you’re looking for a tip to get on peoples good side, any mention of a native OSX port or general improvements on the tech side of things would go a long way. No promises, of course, we’re still all waiting for our ponies. Just a little hope here and there

Welcome Lacey, i’ve been waiting for this day for more than a year, im glad it finally has come.

Now to business… GW2 is unplayable on mac (at least those that are not 16gb ram and 2gb vram). I for example have to low down EVERYTHING (even the rendering) and i still freeze like crazy, not to count that the fps strugles to stay at 20.

so basically… the main issue with the client is the unbereable lag regardless how crap u put the graphics. It’s been like that for 2 years and i’m 100% sure that i’m not the only one that has been waiting for this for that long

Though to be completely honest I’m not filled with confident. This is about the 3rd or 4th time we got news of better communication which were all followed by months of silence. Guess we’ll see.

If you don’t mind clarifying, does this mean that helping us out is not actually your fulltime job, rather something that you will be doing on the side? If that is the case I would be fairly concerned. We are nearing the 2 year mark of this cider client. It would be great if we could get a dedicated support and development team. It’s the only way we will ever see any real change come to fruition.

I would really appreciate it if you could clarify this point for us. Thank you.

Greetings, Lacey. Welcome to the OSX forums, where we thought that we have been forgotten. And your words prove our fears right. Let’s suppose that overlooking OSX issues is not your main task, and understandably so, it’s a huge task on its own, what should we understand from this?

If there won’t be any realistic improvements— not only the forums, but the game client itself then nothing has certainly changed. After all, organizing this place, and cleaning it up as you deem better can be a precursor to a long list of improvements for players that use OS X.

The client has been in a Beta phase for over two years, and many issues arise, some are tackled, some forgotten, and it was pathetic up to a point that they decided that it was time to let someone take up the mantle of exclusively dedicating themselves to this part of the community.

Indeed, welcome. And I hope, that perhaps, your coming might mean something realistic for us on the long term. Otherwise, there’s no need for the sympathy of Arena Net towards those who expect a perfectly working client up to par with the Windows version of the game.

If the plans to achieve that are up in the air, if the money isn’t there or simply it’s not suitable business choice then it is high time that we are told the truth about the client, as it would be easier to shot it down rather than keep this circus going in a circle.

Well, I wish you good luck with your work, and at least I am glad someone stepped up willingly to take this role in the community.

Only three messages in just over 2 weeks isn’t very inspiring. I was worried that this would end up being another case of pandering to us mac users, sad to see I was right. It’d be nice to see an actual dedicated person for this part of the forums, rather than someone who comes along every other month and sticks around for a couple days. :/

I wasn’t really expecting much – if you take a look at the forums, you’ll notice that a lot of experienced users are helping others. I think that’s just the way things are going to be. We don’t need a dedicated technical support person, we need someone who will advocate for Mac users, who will encourage the ANET team to start building a client that is actually sufficient.

I appreciate the gesture of having someone browse the Mac forums a little more and provide some inside perspective on the issues users are facing, but I won’t be satisfied until I know, with absolute certainty, that a client is being made for us. Until then, I’m just going to do my best to help people here even though I barely play.

That’s more or less what I meant; someone who advocates for the Mac users; that would show us that ArenaNet actually cares about us and is working towards the creation of a native client.

I think it’s amazing people like you, Aries Feathermore, take the time to help users figure out problems! The community here is fantastic. <3

I just wanted to pop in here and let y’all know I haven’t forgotten about you or these forums.

As I mentioned in my original post I am handling the forums on top of my regular job duties. Because of this, things have been a bit slow to get moving, but I am going to try to stop in here more frequently from here on out.

Lastly, I wanted to thank y’all for being such an awesome community! Even though I just started working with y’all, I have spent a lot of time reading through the Mac forums over the last couple of years and it’s nice to see that you guys are just as willing to help each other now, as you were when the forums first opened.

Thank you for the clarification and for the effort and consideration. Knowing there’s at least one person who does think about us Mac users does mean a lot (and definitely helps to kill my cynicism… lol!).

Hey Lacey,

Thank you for letting us know what your job is here. I think a lot of people were hoping for somebody to advocate a native mac client. It’s always good seeing more anet personal working with the mac community. I appreciate you beeing here.

Not hiring a dedicated mac specialists and taking from your regular work hours shows how little Anet thinks of mac players and makes their nice words taste quite sour.

That client’s developement has been neither denied nor confirmed sadly and after those years and the continued lack of support for a native client, it is safe to assume that this sorry excuse for a client will stay for a while.

The forums really only needed a quick clean up, ever other 3 months or so. can be done by any mod posting a quick question asking what needs cleaning up, worked last time.

The concerns have always been about all the problems the wrapper is causing.

As it stands, mac players cannot enjoy the same graphical fidelity as other people. they suffer frame drops with a lot of people around and even though it has worked for me for a while, the black lion trading post is often inaccessible for mac users.
Also sometimes it doesn’t start or restarts the computer upon exiting the game.

So again, please consider to get some kind of message stating the developement of a native mac client.

If you do not develop one at the moment, let us know and we will use windows meanwhile. I don’t understand the ratio behind ignoring any plea, comment, question or suggestion regarding a mac native client.

I know that where arenanet is situated the legal environment is more than toxic but there should be a way to notify players about the current state of said client without breaking any kind of NDA.

My favor to ask of you is to tell somebody that the mac client in its current state might hurt the reputation of arenanet more than it would be inconvenient for mac users to install windows and play it on a native client.

Mac users have been using windows for a long time if you played other games than Blizzard games.

I really don’t like working with windows but only using it for games always worked out. It would be better to have native mac games though of which there are still too few.

Thank you for your work Lacey, sorry about the less than perfect format of this post, I’m tired of writing the same quaggan manure every time

I’m not trying to downplay your efforts, Lacey, they are greatly appreciated. However, I don’t understand how we don’t have a dedicated mac specialist who’s main focus is Apple users. As I’ve said before, this game is advertised as working on both Windows and Macintosh, and that is deceptive. As proven by users on this forum, the Mac version is not in working condition and shouldn’t be advertised by ANET. We don’t even have a support specialist that focuses their attention, 100%, on us. Why are we being treated second-rate compared to the rest of the community?

We have a growing community here, and I’m starting to really enjoy it. I applaud the users here who offer their time and experience to help others; it’s the only reason I really check in here. The community here deserves better in my opinion; they deserve news on whether or not a legitimate Macintosh client is coming or not.

Lacey, thank you for your kind words regarding our community. I hope that you understand that our frustration does not stem with you and that we are very thankful that you are offering what time you have.

Unfortunately, that still does not overshadow the fact that almost two years have gone by and ANet has still not dedicated even one person to the cause of supporting this Mac cider client, let alone actually putting in the effort to make an actual Mac client.

I only wish someone from ANet would actually care enough to tell us what went wrong and why they never went forward with making a finished Mac client. It is incredibly frustrating and disappointing.

I would like to add to the voices asking for an official complete Mac OSX client. I have a friend I’d like to introduce to the game but they cannot/willnot do Boot Camp to go for a Windows system. I told them a year ago there was a client in beta but now I’m just pining away . . .

. . . probably because in order to play in an MMO with them I resorted to trying another one. No, I won’t name which one.

But I don’t want to pay to play so I can game with them, I want them to play this game I really love.

I.E maybe once a month like the last people that were in these Mac forums that Anet really doesn’t have a show of concern for other than to pop in to make us all have a false sense of actual concern or that they plan on really doing much for us.

Let’s not forget that she is here for the forums, not for the mac client, even though we would have wanted somebody for this reason. The forums only needed work because they had been neglected for a year.

Second this, I think we might be heard in the CDIs

being reminded over and over again of Anet’s policy of not talking about what is in development also sparked a tiny little hope, not sure how you guys feel.
