Hi!

My current rig is using a AMD fx-8350 processor and nvidia gtx 970. Currently, I’m only getting about 20-35 fps while all settings are max. I fear its the processor that is causing the framerate drop. Does anyone have any experience with these two components?

I have that processor and a 660, and I get a lot more fps then that. You need to run GPU-Z and CPU-Z while the game is running, take screenshots and post.

GPU-Z and CPU-Z are monitoring and diagnostic tools that tell us information about your components.

Ellieanna.5027 probably suspects your GPU isn’t running at full link speed. i.e PCI-E 3.0 x16.

It very well could be so. Although if you read some threads about AMD processors on these forums, you’ll find that the single most important aspect for GW2 performance,Individual Core Strength,is severely lacking in AMD CPUs compared to Intel CPUs.

There’s currently an optimization issue affecting players. I have a 4690k and get the same issues since the last patch. We had a similar issue months ago affecting players somewhat randomly, some fixed it- others had to wait until Anet patched it.

First image is my system at rest

Second image is my system while Gw2 is running.

I’m fairly new at the computerbuilding scene. This is my first rig. So I don’t really know much of what’s being monitored in those programs that is useful to look at.

Looks like your system is responding to the game running with both the CPU and GPU running at their full potential.

It’s definitely the cpu. AMD is crap for gw2, even an i3 is able to bring more fps than any FX cpu…

If you want to keep the FX, turn down Reflections to “Terrain & Sky”, Shadows to “Medium”, Character limits to “Medium”, enable LOD effects and disable High res Character.

Thanks for those suggestions Anasu. I’m always over 30fps without too much noticeable visual quality difference now.

Are you using max ingame settings? if so, start off by disabling FXAA and set Reflections to Sky. I would set character limit to medium for normal game areas and low for zerg/wvw content.

that should make a decent enough difference.

Honestly try FXAA and see if it actually matters more than a frame or two. And if it doesn’t and you don’t mind the collateral blur, leave it on.
