Hi all,

I made a mistake and purchased the wrong item for 42k karma. I know it was my fault for not paying attention, but is there any way to get those karma points refunded?

Unfortunately not. They do not have the ability to refund or replace items purchased via karma or laurels.

That’s a shame because sometimes people make honest mistakes and 42k karma is huge price to pay. I could’ve sworn a clicked on the correct item…

Anyway, have they ever talked about implementing a way for the vendors to refund a purchase?

No. It’s been mentioned in the forum before though. They should have a buy back option on karma merchants and the laurel merchants that lasts until you leave the area, as these mistakes happen.

That’s not entirely accurate though. My friend purchased the wrong ascended ring for a while ago, and their reply was that they didnt have the tools to reaward him with laurels. However, they fixed his issue by deleting the ascended ring, and awarding him with the appropriate ascended ring instead. Different solution, but same outcome.

The method to avoid this mistake is already in place. A confirmation dialog box (requiring another click) accompanies any large purchase in the game (well, I think there is an exception in the Trading Post).

But, in WoW they let you purchase items for points and you have an hour of in game time to get a refund should you want one. It should be a simple matter to sell the item back and get 42,000 karma points in return.

What was nice about this, is that it allows you to try the item out and return it if it doesn’t work out. Also, what if I purchase say, boots, and a bit later, a pair of boots drop with the same or better stats out in the world? Getting a refund would also be nice in this case.

Sorry mate. This isn’t WoW. Anet doesn’t refund mistaken purchases. If they put in a buy back system in the future, maybe you’ll be able to get your Karma back then.

This isn’t WoW. In my opinion WoW is doing more for their clients to keep them sattisfied. That is likely cause they want you to pay their monthly fee. This game is free of charge, people using support a lot cost Arenanet more money then people who are responsable and don’t make mistakes. So it is logical that Arenanet promotes that people are more carefull. It’s a different bussinessmodel.

However, even if they are doing this for laurels, that’s because laurels are time-gated, whereas you can earn that much karma in a couple days not even trying, or one day if you play hard.
