Account Hacked
I guess you had to download/click something you shouldn’t have, mate. Accounts don’t get hacked ‘just because’, you have to provide a window to the thieves.
William S. Burroughs
all I did was come in from work and tried to log in to my account it told me there was an error and I had to change my password to log in and all my stuff was gone, they sold off all my weapons armor and stole everything out of my bank.
Clicked on nothing….downloaded nothing but the update this morning
If you haven’t already, submit a ticket to support.
If your account was actually hacked, they can sometimes “rewind” your account to some time prior to the hacking.
Up there in the page, besides the forum tab is the support tab. You should check there.
Submit a ticket. They will give you the last saved version of your account (before hacking). ANet can’t do more about your account safety. Your email account had been hacked first, so that they hacked your GW2 account.
You are probably a victim of heartbleed. I suggest you to check your email addresses:
Thanks guys a friend just showed me the support ticket thing and submitted it, I am sure hoping to get that stuff back, I can’t even buy weapons to play one of my guys with.
How simple is your password?
If it’s something as simple as:
[randomword]
Then you got bruteforced hacked. Even if you add numbers it doesn’t take long to hack that
For a sturdy password, it’s best to have three random words plus a number, such as:
8194christmasdonkeyponders
1119applebrownspace
oakleyswimmerlaugh5198
I checked my email to the link you posted and it says mine is not there so I don’t know if that’s a good thing, but at least im not in their data base..
I will go change the password again, its kind of hard now, but I want to take all the caution I can now that this has happened to me
Also please run a virus scanner, just incase you have a keylogger. Windows Security Essential is more than enough.
1. If you haven’t already change your password to something you’ve never used anywhere before. (And which isn’t similar to your old one, changing it from ‘letmein1’ to ‘letmein2’ is the same as not changing it.)
2. Submit a Support ticket, let them know what happened and they should be able to roll back your account. It’s basically like a system restore on a PC – your account will be reset to exactly the way it was at some point shortly before it was hacked. You will get back everything you lost, but also lose anything you’ve gained since then. (So don’t bother spending time farming while you wait for a reply.)
Also if you did do something to compromise your account it won’t have been immediately before losing it, it could even have been weeks or months ago.
I’d recommend running a spyware and virus check on your PC in case its phishing software, but also check whether you use your (old) GW2 password anywhere else online. Forums, fan sites, your email account, anything like that. It doesn’t have to be GW2 related, often they’ll just build up a database of email addresses and matching passwords and try them in all kinds of places until something works. If you’ve used that email and password combo anywhere else it’s reasonable to assume it’s either the place they got it from or equally vulnerable to account theft. (And you should therefore change the password.)
3rd party forums (aka fan forums) are especially vulnerable because the vast majority use one of a small number of (usually open source) programs to create the forum, including their account database. They’e also dependent on one or a small number of volunteer admins running the site in their free time to remember to check for and install updates (which can feel like far more trouble than it’s worth when you’re doing it) so may not have the latest security.
