Account ban scam mails?

Hi,

I have kind of a curious problem. First off: I use my e-mail account for gw2 only for gw2 and nothing else. I never did use any third-party tools or anything else wrong ingame. I know from other mail accounts some of the usual gw2 scam e-mails, which are usually easy to identify.

Important: I did nothing wrong and my account is of course NOT banned! So I try to figure out what kind of scam the attached mail is.

What my Question is: I checked the whole e-mail, compared the mail details with old ones (some month ago about gemshop purchase) I had from gw2 support (ip adress and if it’s really from your zendesk system, -> yes). The mail just looks totally real for me???

So I don’t know if there is some system error or how/what someone could get out by this kind of scam.

Edit: I figured out that the Beta charslots have been removed. Might this be the reason for the mail?

While the links may appear real as text, the actual links are potentially fake.

Just because it looks real doesn’t mean it is. The links in that email are just text, they can make them look however they want, if you look at the actual link (if you use google chrome you can hover a link to see what it actually direct to) then it most likely goes to a different website.

These kinds of emails are sent out as mass spam – you aren’t being targeted for having a GW2 account. Plenty of people without accounts will get the exact same email. The scammers are just relying on a couple of people who do have accounts getting the email and clicking the links.

Basically. Don’t trust that email. Instead, if you are worried about your account at all, log in on the official guildwars2.com website, change your password, and submit a support ticket through the proper link.

Thanks, but that’s not a usual spam mail

The links and mail is real (of course I checked them in the mail body and not only text or browserlink^^).

Luckly I found this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3oswu8/got_all_my_accounts_banned_and_it_doesnt_make/

So it starts to make sense^^ For my account there might be two reasons why I got that “false flag mail”:
1. I run gw2 often in a vm (virtual machine). Seems like reddit that anet might have made there an error^^
2. The beta charslots got removed. Well anet gave out the deluxe upgrade bonuses again at the time they created the beta account copy. So might be the same reason that they “shutdown” the beta copy and their automatic system just mailed me…

So far I’m pretty sure that it is a real mail, but it’s just seems to be sent out wrongfully^^ (Well mistakes can happen^^)

Edit: Because someone asked me ingame: I’m not and I was never banned, only got these wrong e-mail^^ I guess after these threads emerged on reddit, anet fixed whatever caused the error^^

I run gw2 often in a vm (virtual machine).

If your goal is to run multiple clients, all you need to do is use the -shareArchive option to prevent GW2 from locking Gw2.dat and then kill the mutex which is what prevents multiple instances from being opened.

Thanks I know that
It’s more a security reason^^ I have one vm for interent access with a virus scan software and one only for gw2. On the gw2 vm I have no virus detection program or anything else on it, because it speeds up the ingame loading time alot^^
(Currently I got it to a point where the “map loading time” takes only around 6 seconds. Compared to the 45 seconds on my usual gaming system, that is an awesome increase^^)
