Some days ago I received an email from Playspan telling me they got hacked and their entire database was stolen but “only usernames (emails) and passwords” (yeah like if that was not important at all) but not billing data.

Last night after I logged off from the game and before going to bed I checked my emails as usual and realized I got 2 log in attempts from China. I don’t know if these events are related cause I used Playspan a long time ago and have no clue what my log in information was, but certainly my log in information (username/password/email) matched somehow in my GW2 account although I have a variety of emails/usernames and passwords I use for my online activity.

That being said, be aware of this Playpan issue, take care and change your passwords in a regular basis.

And finally props to Anet for giving us a secure environment to avoid hacking/stealing.

Cheers!

ArenaNet does not use PlaySpan for its micro-transaction services in Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2.

We do not share account credentials with PlaySpan or any other company.

This incident does highlight the importance of using strong, unique passwords for every account you wish to keep secure. For more information about account security, we encourage you to read this post by Mike O’Brien: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I can’t hurt to remind folks about security. And of course, with the new Mobile Authenticator and Email Authentication, Guild Wars 2 players have some extra layers of security that they can choose to use.
