So this morning I try to log-in ingame, and I get the message my account is being terminated since i’ve assisted in Account Sales? I don’t know what this is all about, so I mail support. Apparently they do not want to help me… I activated my HoT key which was given to me by a friend 7 days ago, and asked them yesterday where my 4000 gems were, since it stated up to 72 hours. However I suddenly got the response my account is terminated and I engaged in real life Account Sales? What is this all about??? I am willing to buy my own key, but instead they terminate my account and say I practise activities I didn’t do? I hope someone of Anet sees this and can help me out

Like other say in reddit thread it look like your friend give you a bad HoT key. Could be from illegal source or something. Sound like you need to talk to your friend about this.

You can still talk to support, and ask them if you can buy a new key to be applied to the account. Let them know that you didn’t know where the key from your friend came from, but you are very willing to correct this issue.

I did not. But i feel it is somewhat unfair, If he is willing to buy the full expansion at full price from store, I don’t see the issue. He knows now he should’t have accepted the key, but support isn’t helping him in any way..

Some stores have stolen keys. It’s like buying a stolen car. If you buy a stolen car, the police have the ability to remove the car from your possession. If a store is not authorized to sell HoT, and they choose to sell keys anyways, Anet has every right as a company to not accept those keys.

As noted above, the friend can ask for a review in the appropriate thread.

Still, the CS Team has no way of knowing what is truth, and what is scam. Do we, as players, have no responsibility to ascertain whether a Serial Key is legitimate or not?

How well did the friend know this other ‘friend’? Or was it some random player saying, ‘Hey, I’m giving away free keys!’, or someone found on the internet?

Considering the amount of fraud that goes on, you can’t blame CS for being conservative.

Yes i agree, but if he is willing to buy the ultimate cd key for 100 eur from the anet store now. I don;t see the issue, well i do not know where his friend got the key from or anything. But it sounds to me he should be given a fair chance if he is willing to buy the key from anet store. at least they could have told him, while the key was active for 6 days on his account right? ;/ I don’t blame anet for taking measures, but give him a x amount of hours ban then and let him buy the new key from the store. But terminating his 25.500 ap account sounds a bit drastic ;/

No person here know what is true and what is not with your friend or his friend or what ever really happen. Only your friend can talk to support and hope for an answer that work. Like Inculpatus cedo.9234 said post in sticky thread with ticket number. Argue here about it will not fix. Achievement point does not matter if someone use stolen key. Can not say one person with 1.000 achievement does not get second chance but someone with 25.500 does. That does not matter at all

This is something EVERYONE who purchases items online needs to ensure, they are buying from a legit source and not a shady place. People don’t do that, and as the result, it gets them in trouble. His friend screwed him, and Anet from money. Anet doesn’t get money from stolen keys. Doesn’t matter if money was paid, Anet wasn’t paid. And as a company, they are in to make money.

Your friend can offer to buy a new key, or post in the 3 days if at that point support still isn’t helping. Remember you are only hearing from a 3rd source. What exactly happened only your friend really truly knows. He could not be telling you the complete truth for all you know.

But Anet has every right to do whatever they want when someone applies a stolen key to their account. It actually costs them a lot of money to go through keys, determine it’s stolen, and then deal with the account holders. It costs them money to remove the key. Why shouldn’t they be harsh?

I am just saying, he probably doesn’t have bad intentions if he played the game for 3 years and reached the 25k anount of AP. I’m sure he will pay the costs for the key + extra fees that apply because of the corrupted key. Let’s hope other people make not the same mistake!

I am sure he has no bad intentions, but is more or less a misunderstanding. The upcoming week is his payday, so I am sure he will buy a new HoT key if you guys let him. It is just sad to see he is part of this one big mess now :/

Yup, sounds like applying a fraudulent key on the account. We can’t help unless you give us a ticket #.

My guess is that the key was purchased fraudulently, re-sold, applied to an account, that person didn’t know about the 72 hour delay on ultimate edition gems, put in a ticket and by that time we identified the fraud and closed the account.

I understand trying to save some money, but there is a reason these bad sites are listing for such a low price.

People buy gold at goldseller with their CC. Goldseller uses CC data to buy accounts.
At some point the guldbuyer gets aware of that and wants his money back, and at
that point ANet closes the account.

No need to check with arena net before use key if you buy from arnea net direct or approve seller from their list. Do check with arena net before apply key if some “friend” say here is free key for HoT use it when you do not no where key is from.

Never apply gem codes or serials where you arent 100% sure of the source.

Yea it sucks those corrupt / counterfeit keys are out there ;/ wish there was a way they wouldn’t even be able to activate it. But i am sure it takes tons of time to figure all this out for anet..

Or as stated, ensure you are buying for an authorized source. It’s not hard. People need to be adults when they accept/purchase items. Any item, online or otherwise.

I Don’t understand, I am pretty sure my friend didn’t resell his account. However about the HoT key, I can understand that part because he made a mistake. But he is willing to buy the HoT key (ultimate) at full price from the store, and paying the extra fees needed to get the fradulent key removed from his account, since he didn’t pay for the fradulent key. I am sure if he had any idea about these things, he would’ve bought the key himself instead of accepting his friends one. I hope you guys can give him a chance, since it would be sad to see him go because of this mistake.

No he didn’t sell me anything? I only know his account is being blocked after he asked where his gems were. And I don’t know who gave him the key to apply to his account. I am just here to get my friend back ingame and trying to communicate here, since my friend can’t get on the forum with his account. And I find it sad he would get terminated for this, while he is willing to co-operate and cover all the costs of reapplying a new cd-key from anetstore.

Except, it looks like your “friend” didn’t originally own the account. Sounds like when he sent the information about it, it was completely different then what was on the account. The quick replies you are giving with “more and more” information, seems fishy as well. Anet even replied on this post about the account. Your “friends” ticket most likely explained the same thing.

Resold account? An account that was purchased by 1 person who either sold it or had it stolen and sold? Have I got that right?

My friend did buy the account in past yes, but the problems were resolved and Anet gave him a new key. So this is irrelevant I think, as far as I know my friend didn’t resell the account.. He just applied a faulty key it seems, but now the excuse of being resold is being thrown out there.

Your “friend’s” ticket has already been given a final answer. There is really no point in belaboring the issue. One should always remember to follow the rules of the EULA.
