So, how big is this problem?

Haven’t been on for months. Tried to login about 5 months back and my account was hacked, but not terminated. I needed a rep to help me reset the pass. They helped me and I made a pretty darn secure pass.

Now today, It’s telling me that my account has been terminated due to a modified game client.

I have already sent in a help ticket, but I was wondering how often does this sort of thing happen???

When they do clear this up for me, what can I do to be 100% sure this wont happen again?

I have email verification on, yet that seemed to have not helped me.

if emailverification isn’t working this means the hacker has access to your mail. So first step is to review your own online security. A good thing would be to reinstall windows. be carefull to install downloaded programs, but be crafeull with downloaded software, better download it again so you can verify the source. Also make sure you change ALL your passwords, it is recommended to use different passwords for every account. If you can trust the people your living with, write them down. A hacker can see in your computer but not in your room.

If you have smartphone you can also change from email verification to phone verification. this means you spread the authentication process between two devices.

There is no 100% guarantee, but having strong and unique passwords for each account you use is a good start.

Well, its just me, my wife, and two little ones so I don’t mind posting my pass on a piece of paper.

Here’s where it gets a little ‘worrying’ for me.

It only shows 2 IP’s that have played my account since the last successful login. Both of them were from me. 1 ip was from a cable company I used to use, and the newest one is from ATT uverse. ( I don’t recommend fiber to the node to anyone.)

The last time it was hacked, there were ip’s from Arizona, China, and one that was unnamed.

I am very afraid that they will not take consideration that my account was hacked a couple months ago and just keep me perma banned. But, I bet that they keep logs so they can review it in depth.

Moreover; when we did fix my account here I also changed my email password the same day as well. So…. maybe this is a ‘late’ ban? lol

On paper, I am the only one that has logged into my account since then, so it looks like the ban is legit. But I bet that it was just a late ban. Any hope on it being a late ban?

I am to darn old to mess with mods or client hacks… no… not to old… just don’t really give a hell to do such a thing. Never really have.

Don’t you worry bout that. The account page here is so you can delete authorized networks. Hackers often do that when they are done to hide their identity from you and to confuse you in a false security. Arenanet themselves will likely keep a full record wich the hacker can’t hide.
