Q:
Guild Wars 2 worked okay a couple nights ago when I first ran it. Before closing out, it said a new build was available. When I started the game today, it updated.
Now, when I start the application, I login, click Play, and my screen flickers, I see my desktop with a maximized but empty Guild Wars 2 window, and music starts to play.
Resolution steps attemped: I have the latest graphics card drivers, I verified that the anti-aliasing settings were set to default (application-controlled), I have UAC completely disabled, and I typically have Windows Aero turned off. I ran Gw2.exe -repair.
No success.
System specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
8GB DDR2 1066MHz
nVidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I have no problems with any other game I play, I keep all of my system drivers up to date, etc. I recently obtained this graphics card, and when I did I completely uninstalled the previous drivers and installed the new ones. Everything should be at their defaults.
Curious observation: If I turn Aero on and then try to start the game, I get an all-black screen but the same overall experience.

Since I haven’t received a response, I’ve been trying some additional remedies:
1. Complete uninstallation of graphics driver, fresh reinstallation of latest driver from NVIDIA’s site
2. Complete uninstallation of GW2, fresh reinstallation downloaded from my account management page
No change. Should I be pursuing a refund?
Run game advisor and post your log here.
I figured out a workaround. The first time I launched the game, I had my second monitor enabled in my nvidia drivers – but in later attempts to play the game I disabled it (as I often do when trying to get a little extra performance).
When I launch and play the game with the second monitor enabled, the game starts normally. It’s only when the second monitor is disabled do I encounter trouble.
My primary monitor is DVI, my secondary is VGA.
When I get a spare few minutes, I’ll run the game advisor and see what more we can find.
The workaround was short-lived.
Attached is my log file.
did you ever find a solution?
