Alt-character macro's bannable?
Binding two actions to one key stroke will get a ban.
“The post made by Gaile :
Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.
This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.
For example, if you Press A and it results in the casting of a single skill, you’re ok. If you Press A and it casts multiple spells, you’re not ok.
You cannot program a macro to perform the same or multiple actions on more than one account at a time.
You cannot program an “auto-clicker” macro that, for instance, opens chests while you play elsewhere."
Alright – i’ll remove them soon as i can then, just to be safe. Hope nothing bad happens for now :s
The policy is 1 keystroke per action, which is to do something once, not 1 keystroke per keystroke. There’s nothing wrong with using a macro to enter a special character, or even a string of text, such as an emote. Despite their policy, the truth is, as long as you’re not using macros to automate gameplay for extended periods, with the exception of playing music, there’s no risk. Using a macro to spam clicks is technically against the rules for example, yet no one has ever been banned for doing it to open bags. Even if they did, worst case, you get a 72 hour warning suspension.

So… if i’d just use it for characters, and every now and again accidentally have it try to use two skills at once with one button press – would i be okay?
I dont feel this is an offence or anything, but well… im very paranoid about my account in that way. GW2 keeps me afloat, and i’d hate to get it banned for something stupid like this.
If there’s a chance you may use it in a way that’s not legal, I would remove it or make the trigger for it something you know you won’t accidentally use.

Technically, it is against the rules to use a macro that’ll use 2 abilities in a single press. That said however, as long as you’re not seriously abusing it, nothing will happen. In minor cases like that, the use of a macro is not even detectable.
But no one here is a dev and it’s pure speculation if they will see, or will ignore it etc. Bottom lime it’s against the TOS as you describe it. IF you want to chance it, go for it. It’s your account.
