Guild Wars 2

My first gripe is that I wasn’t allowed to use already used passwords, this is infuriating, I don’t need help protecting my account, I feel like I am being hand held like a baby despite being an IT professional with experience in Organisational System Security.

Second, E-Mail Authentication SUCKS, every SINGLE time I need to login, It believes I am connecting from a different location, I have apparently logged in from almost every parish with a repeater in my home county as well as 500 miles away in places like Covent Garden, Bristol, Minehead, Exeter, Plymouth… the list goes on. It has NEVER actually found my true location and it’s actually worse for my account security as I am having to allow access to these paths and save them so that the 4 or so hours until my IP get’s re leased I can login without accessing my email.

Where is the option to turn this off, and if there isn’t one… why?

And give me the option to use my old passwords, I have been using the same 21 character string for as long as I can remember without issue, and I always use variations of it for everything. Regardless of the opinions of security experts, a password you remember is better than one you don’t.

I was FORCED to use my GW1 account, I cannot tell you how long it took me to remember my characters name there – I had to have a friend who had the game login and check his friends list. I played Guild Wars years ago, you almost prevented me playing the game because of your idiotic security measures. I had no interest in using my old account, I wanted a new one, you forced me to use an old one, forced me to change my password because it had been used before, making a process that should have been simple, quick and easy, long and arduous.

If you really want to add an OPTIONAL layer of security, add what Blizzard added, and what my bank uses, an Authenticator. Something I can opt into if I am concerned.

Fortunately, despite not having dueling just yet, the game is brilliant and is everything I had imagined it to be before release.
