Guild Wars 2

I’m not here to complain, just to seek help. I’m unable to play GW2 steadily on my desktop. The reason it concerns me is because this is the only game that has ever affected my PC. Another reason that has me stumped is that I have played it on my laptop since the first BWE, and not ONCE has it crashed. It’s confusing because my PC has a lot more power behind it.

Mind you, I’m not super tech savvy, but I understand how the majority of computers work and I’ve upgraded my 2005 PC to meet todays standards.

I’ve played Skryim on High, Borderlands 2, Dead Space 2, Planetside… etc, some fairly demanding games and never experience a crash until GW2.

For specs, I have a PC running Windows 8 64-bit, 6 gigs of RAM, Intel Quad Core @ 2.5 GHz, and an XFX 7770. It’s no beast, but like I’ve said, I never had a problem playing games.

On the other hand, my laptop has Windows 8 64-bit, 4 GB of ram, Intel i5, and an nVidia GTS 360M GPU. It’s run GW2 great so far.

Can someone give me some insight on why I’m experiencing this? It just doesn’t make since to me. I’ve tried all of the advice given online and in the stickies. MSI afterburner underclocking, updating drivers, reinstalling, changing in game options, etc… It’s weird too, because the temperature of my GPU never goes above 50 °C.

I will say that I just got the new 13.4 AMD drivers yesterday and uninstalled Avast. I tried logging in and I got maybe 2 hours of gameplay again, until I went to Shatterer and the black screen happened again.

This issue started happening to me when I first installed the 13.1 driver. I’ve found that any drive before the 13.x series works like a charm and everything is back to normal. I discovered this problem more than a month ago, and to see it still happening is very saddening

I can tell you that I am in the same boat. It’s hard to believe that we can run all those other games with no issue but this one. I too have tried reinstalling drivers and a list of other recomendations with no success. I really like this game but the crashing is really annoying. Not sure what to do next. Here is my system specs if it helps.

On the same boat. Screen just seems to go black and twiddle it’s thumbs. When it first started happening, at least the music would cue, with no visual. Now it doesn’t even do that.

Same boat since launch, I don’t want to try to estimate the amount of time I spent to try to find a solution against crashes, deadlocks, and gw2 stopping because my lapto kitten upposed to be overclocked, too hot or my ram supposed to get buggy.

I crash around 1 time per hour of play, and since I almost only play WvW where crashes & bugs occur the most by far, combined with waiting queues I just run mad.

I keep playing cuz I don’t want to leave my guild, but as soon as a new mmo with decent wvw pops I won’t be here anymore and will try to avoid as much as possible ANet games : during my searches on google I realized that many bugs we face now were present in gw1, so if they failed or didn’t even try to correct those in years I have no hope to see things going better with these devs/structure.

So far I noticed that playing cable-connected through a rj45 instead of wifi reduces a bit crashes, also I tend to launch a repair before playing since gw2 seems to get self-corrupted very easily.

Generaly when we attack a huge bandwagon and are inside it the game just crashes, 90% of the bugs are related to missing models so related to the 3d engine anyway.

So I tried the Nvidia fix posted by the devs, and afterwards my screen actually went into power saving mode (the music played in the background though). After rebooting (manually), I’m back at square one.

Incase it matters, I’ll give a better description. A black screen with a flickering blue bar at the top. When it’s doing this it constantly blocks any attempts to alt+tab it away and constantly pops to the forefront so that I can’t close it with task manager. Occasionally the flickering will stop so that the screen just goes plain black and, if I’m quick, I can pull up task manager before that little blue epileptic bar starts going all bat kitten again, and close it down.

I’ve also notice that whenever I actually get task manager to close the gw2 client/black screen, I am unable to restart my computer via start menu. I get an error “boink” sound and wind up have to shut down manually. Also, it seems to cause League of Legends to go on the fritz (could not connect to direct 3d or some such). Neither of those issues occurs until I’ve tried to play GW2.

(edit #2: Almost forgot. If I try to use the client after closing it with task manager, it just locks up and stays at the “Downloading 0%” part of startup.)
