I was thinking about getting it. How is the FPS in Lion’s arch and WvW Zergs?

My primary reason for upgrading is getting better frames in Guid wars 2 and I heard it relies heavily on a single core where intel competitor for the chip outperforms.

Thanks.

An i5 on average will be around 40-60% better at single threaded applications so will out perform on gw2 a fair bit

Upgrading for GW2 ..get an intel i5 or i7 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gen K version, with a Z series board for overclocking. Also be a good idea to get an aftermarket CPU cooler.

Max settings in LA. TBH, you’ll never get super high FPS in zerg scenarios, the game just isnt optimized very well for large encounters! I for one rarely have any trouble in game though with my fx8350. It is certainly far cheaper than intel and much better for multi use like I use such as editing and design programs etc.
But if your going for a pure power gaming machine, intel is what you want to be looking at really.

This is what u can get from a second gen Intel + OC.

Not the best comparison tbh since the scene below is more intensive(wider view + more people) than the one above, but its still almost double non the less.

Even so, as stated in the above post, their is a price difference to take into consideration.

Same spot from SolarNova’s screenshot on an AMD FX-8350 and max graphics will get 15 frames or lower on Black Gate.

Not a good CPU for CPU bound games but for other games it can be good.

1500€ = 3930k 4.6ghz +EVGA GTX 780 Classified = 40fps
500€ = fx8350 + gtx 770 = 30fps + 1000€

And yes GW2 is ANTIAMD CPU or Bad optimize

GW2 is NOT anti AMD, it’s simply only has enough work to keep 3 cores busy and couple that with the fact each AMD FX “core” is roughly 50-60% slower than an Intel Haswell core at the same clock speed makes an AMD FX not a good CPU for this game.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

Poorly optimized game is all anything under 60 FPS is unacceptable. My I7 4770K deserves better than 25 fps in a zerge and 38 to 45 fps in lions arch. Amd users its not better with an Intel processor remember anything under 60 fps is just unacceptable. Intel is top notch, but this game makes Intel look bad and makes Amd look horrible lol. I have stopped playing, so I can see my Intel shine in its wonderful glory in well optimized games. Also it gets tiring when the drop rate is constantly nerfed. I will tell you this do not upgrade for this game because there is nothing out there that will make the optimization better. RIP GW 2. If you want good pvp this game is not optimized enough to make it worth your time lag spikes can and do kill.

Mi fx 8350 use 4+2(6) of 8 cores playing gw2. AMD phenom II & FX Series is not optim for gw2 is bad = ANTI AMD CPU. Other games gta iv,eflc,crysis3,battlefield4, have more fps.

Intel 5 3570 + ati 5870 = 30-35 fps lion (my friend)
Amd fx8350 + gtx 580 = 20-27 fps lion (my pc)
Amd phenom II 955 x4 + gts250asus = 10-20fps lion (my home pc)

i play good, only gw2 have crah or low fps in espicific times bad optimize game. low setting or max settings 25fps in lion. Bye!

i play gw2 but Torque x2 xD

GW2 is not Anti AMD. AMD makes their processors for other things. The same things as Intel too, but Intel does it better. Simple as that.

First:
I bought i7 3770 for my brother… believe me not much difference between FX 6300 and i7… it is software …

IT SHOULD SUPPORT MANTLE TO GET THE BEST FPS

THIS MY GIVE YOU BOOST!
Go to bios
set as 1 core per module…
OC to 4,5 – 5,0GHz – it will be easy to OC . Less heat less voltages
Then try and benchmark

Its not anti amd it just requires lots of single threaded power The main area amd is behind they need to move to 22nm for The next cpu cores if they want anychance of staying near to intels 16nm ( I think its 16nm anyway)

Why does mine i7 3770 lagg in when i set to max in LA – actually is same as FX 6300…
I discovered that 4 core intel cpu will almost always have higher CPU usage than quad core FX CPU … why?

Because AMD CPU have much lower single threaded performance compared to a same clocked Intel guild wars puts mist of its rendering in to 2 or 3 CPU threads

Because AMD CPU have much lower single threaded performance compared to a same clocked Intel guild wars puts mist of its rendering in to 2 or 3 CPU threads

its one main thread that does the bulk work for the game engine. That’s why AMD struggles with this game when compared to Intel.

Any other game, its a 20-30% margin.

But this game, its like 20% AMD and 80% Intel for over all performance.
(IE on top ended OC AMD rig you can get 45-60FPS, on Intel you can get 80-125 -Ultra Settings)

Desktop: 4790k@4.6ghz-1.25v, AMD 295×2, 32GB 1866CL10 RAM, 850Evo 500GB SSD
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD

Because AMD CPU have much lower single threaded performance compared to a same clocked Intel guild wars puts mist of its rendering in to 2 or 3 CPU threads

I know that AMD has lower single thread performance… i have both cpus…

I have to say that AMD has really strong multicore perfromance…

Guild Wars use 4 threads – so FX 43*/63* will beat i3 … atlon x4 beat pentium
and is near i3 perfromance …

Actually these “online” games MMOs/BF3/4 MP … is mainly software bottlenecking…
Some test that i made.

BF:BC 2 while playing SP it use like 70-80% while playing MP it use 50-60% … GPU isnt bottlenecking
BF3 MP i downclocked FX 6300 to 2,0 GHz i and i tried MP .. CPU usage went to 100% all cores at 100%! WoW
But when you clock it to 4,0Ghz or more usage wont go more than 75% .. GPU isnt bottlenecking
So there is a lot of software bottlenecking… WHY? but PC use crappy software while konzoles use great software…

Mantle will change that… PC will become 80% konzole

And stop crying about AMD in this game. Intel has same problems. Few months ago everything was working fine but now it does not. You have to test in on same server…

As an owner of an FX8350 I will say that the performance of the processor varies wildly in GW2. To get the performance where I wanted it I had to reinstall the processor driver (a few times) to get GW2 to use all 8 cores (or if you prefer all four dual cores). Because of the processor driver being reinstalled I had to physically re-install my 6950 2GB video card to get the PCI-E port unstuck from x1 back to x16 where it should have been. Once everything was done I get a constant 35-55 FPS in LA. In WvW a medium size Zerg will cause my frame rates to drop to about 45, large Zergs will drop it to about 30. Once I was in a really huge Zerg, where my frame rates dropped down to about 10-15.
My wife also has a FX8350 with the same mobo/ram configuration I have but she has a GTX 460 1GB. That blasted card consistently puts out about 10FPS more than my AMD. Even when I disconnect my second monitor and use my main (which is the same model as hers at 1080).
I have seen several tests that show that FX systems perform better with Nvidia cards than they do with AMD cards. Go figure…

you need to do this
http://www.extremetech.com/computing/138394-amds-fx-8350-analyzed-does-piledriver-deliver-where-bulldozer-fell-short/2

up to 20% boost
set as 1 core per module- for games that dont use more than 4 cores – even in BF3 MP BF4 MP

then you cna go higher than 1.55V- CPU will run cooler – much cooler – i can go more than 1.6V on air (true spirit 140-1fan)
