Any TBA patch for the lousy fps?
The lack of any comments regarding performance issues with the client is very disconcerting. I agree that if some of the issues are not recognized, I probably won’t buy an expansion either.
Sadly it is the lack of any word from Arena Net that has me the most worried

Devs have commented on performance issues & optimization (see Q11 of this thread)
Mods have said they don’t set a date for these things because its work in progress and people will be furious when the timeline isn’t met.

Omino, stating that your computer can play other modenr games maxed out at 60 fps means nothing. Said modern games may not be bound by the same components GW2 is. Notibly the CPU.
Tera has issues simular to GW2, try doing a rift event and you will be in a slide show, those rift events have roughly the same amount of people in them as GW2 does in WvW yet GW2 can manage a minimum of 30 fps if u have the irght specs, Tera cannot.
Rift the game is a very poorly optismised game, GW2 will run better than Rift in PVE if you have the rig..but again if your in the main city in Rift even a top nothch rig will not get the same performance you get form GW2 in a place like LA.
To be honest GW2 does well considering the shear number of people you can have in one location compared to many other modern engine mmo’s (note this doesnt include WoW)
If you were to post your specs and performance along with examples of areas you get said performance. Maybe people here on the tech support forum, including myself , could help you sqweeze more performance out or advise on possible upgrades if neccessery.

The devs even state that they are running a modified gw1 client. DX9 is terribad. Not only that but making a game with 100 people on screen while the client doesnt have the technology available to make it run smoothly is a major mistake. The only thing I can think of is waiting 2 years when CPUs become available to run wvw and zergs at a decent framerate.

Granted 30 fps isnt exactly what alot of people call good. But 100 player controlled characters on the screen fighting in a game like GW2 with 30 fps being the minimum is pritty good. I admit i would much prefer it to be 60 fps ..and that such a monsterous system wasnt required to get it at 30 …but its possible ..unlike other games i have mentioned.
I mean its kinda like when Crysis 1 was released. People kittened likecrazy that it was so power hungry.. that you needed a computer far more powerfull than what most people could afford to play the game at max settings. BUT it was possible and it helped path the way for future game developments which include the cryengine .like Mechwarrior Online for example.
Now GW2’s engine is unlikely to be used by another game developer ..but…it is still possible to get perfectly playable fps in heavy situations if you have the rig …give it a few years and said rigs which people moan are way to expensive will be lower in price and thus there shouldnt be as much of a problem.
Games that push hardware ..that require hardware not yet available for the majority of people ..are a GOOD thing. They help push manufactorers to release tech, that they have been sitting on for profit, so that people can then play said games much better.
So yea anyway GW2 is good for what it is but we would all like improvments. All i can say to people using 4+ year old and/or media(non gaming) rigs is .“upgrade” ..u cant expect to keep playing ‘all’ brand new games at good fps with old gear ..ur asking to much.

Does your 3930k@4.6ghz run 100 man zergs at 30fps? How was the Karka LA event. This game has some serious issues technically. WvW culling is another issue :P
I agree that setting the bar high is a good thing, but people shouldn’t have to wait for prices on current high end technology to drop to get 30fps on a dx9 game that was designed from the ground up to run zergs.
You have to admit that the lack of foresight was obvious when they used a modified gw1 engine.

My rig actually bottlenecks at my GPU in 100 man fights (in all honesty thanks to Anet culling u never actually see 100 people) but it still manages 30 fps minimum ..now & then ill see a 27 pop up ..but again thats my gpu maxing out since i leave my settings on max* even in wvw. If i lower then i can get better fps.
Karka LA event was even harder on my GPU so i did notice a drop below 30 in some occasion cuased by by GPU ..the main problem i had was the lag though lol.
*MAX being:
1920 × 1080 Vysn on 60hz
All settings highest except -
Reflections Terain and sky
Shadows High
Sampling Normal
Culling happens to me, since their last culling change, even when im at 60 fps ..its really annoying.
