Yesterday morning, my brother and I were able to play the game for hours.

In the evening, a new patch was out, and this “broke” the game for us. Stuck at one file that would never, ever finish downloading for hours.

It’s as if the game is giving me all the possible reasons NOT to spend money on it. After all, other MMORPG makers can make functional patch clients that work.

Use the -log option (Gw2.exe -log) and let it sit for a minute on the stuck file. Open the log file in notepad (%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Gw2.log) to see what it’s getting stuck on. Post it as an attachment.

You can try a different server (Gw2.exe -assetsrv 64.25.41.2), but in a lot of these cases, the problem is the ISP, making a VPN required.

Not trying any of this. Sorry but I am tired.

Tired that a company cannot make a decent patch client in five years, and WE have to fix their problems?! No thanks. Other developers can make this work without me going into their config. files every two weeks — they have some sort of secret sauce that ANet just can’t figure out.

This company doesn’t act like it wants my money so I won’t give it to them again.

But if it was the patch itself, it would be affecting everyone and not just some.

So it’s something on your end. Such as a bad download. Which happens from time to time to everyone. So it’s going to take some work on your end to figure out exactly how to fix it. ANet doesn’t have your computer with the programs it has installed on it. So even if it was a conflict between your computer and the patch, ANet can’t troubleshoot it.

No, it’s not on my end. Because, you see, it was the PATCH that broke it.

Your “not everyone is having this problem so it must be you” logic is flawed. It’s just very simplistic logic.

What I DO know is that no other MMORPG I’ve played does this. No other MMORPG I’ve downloaded 30+ GB of data onto my hard drive, regularly releases patches that “break” it. Guess what game DOES do this—regularly?

So yeah, get real.

It’s not the patch by itself. It’s something on your computer that it doesn’t like.

So unless you get in touch with support and help them figure out what about the patch and your computer don’t mix, there’s no way that they’ll be able to fix the problem except by sheer dumb luck. And I’m sure you don’t want to wait for sheer dumb luck to happen.

Because if it was the patch alone, everyone would have the problem. That’s just how computer code works.

But if you’re not willing to send in the support ticket and answer the questions that the agents ask you, then you’re going to be waiting for sheer dumb luck to happen.

I suggest you stop playing any computer games then and switch to consoles. Sometimes Windows breaks and requires you to reinstall it. Are you going to demand Microsoft come to your house to fix it?

I just went and downloaded the patch just fine. So the patcher is working. The game is working. Something on your end is broken. It could just be a corrupt file (which can happen to anyone and any program) that is causing your issues. Unless you want to pay Anet to send a tech support agent to your house, I wish you good luck in your complaints to a brick wall.
