I’m looking for a very cheap PC to get for my gf who has only just started playing. She has a laptop without a dedicated gfx card (using HD4000). Frames are not that bad but in larger events it really starts to show and ends up in a slideshow.
So my question is; are any of you still using an old C2D E7xxx series chip to play GW2? What performance are you getting? Any info would be helpful! Thanks

For this game, you want solid performing Cores. And the Core2 is VERY old when compared to the running lines of the i-Series CPUs from Intel.

I had a C28300 that I used to test GW2 a while back on, and it was NOTHING when compared to a 2nd gen i3.

My recommendation, if you are buying new or used, buy Intel either a i5 or i7(if you need HT) and go from there. If you are on a tight budget, then get the fastest clocked i3 (2nd gen or newer).

If you are using something you already have laying around, then consider the cost to upgrade that with 4GB of ram and a decent GPU (HD7790, R7-260X, Nvidia 750/TI)

now, the above is all from the assumption you are talking a desktop. If you are talking a laptop then its a totally different discussion.

Desktop: 4790k@4.6ghz-1.25v, AMD 295×2, 32GB 1866CL10 RAM, 850Evo 500GB SSD
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD

I have run GW2 on a C2Q Q6600, and also a C2E QX6850.
Both ran very slow when involved in large events and WvW dispite being great CPU’s for their time.

I would not recommend buying an old Core2 series CPU for GW2.

What u want is a 2nd generation or newer Intel i5 or i7 with their respective correct Socket motherboard. So any of the following would be great choices.

i5’s:
2nd gen: 2500, 2500k, 2550k,
3rd gen: 3550, 3570, 3570k
4th gen: 4570, 4670, 4670k
i7’s
2nd gen: 2600, 2600k, 2700k, 3820, 3930k, 3960X, 3970X
3rd gen: 3770, 3770k, 4820k, 4930k, 4960X
4th gen: 4770, 4770k

3930k 4.6ghz | NH-D14 Cooler | P9x79 Pro MB | 16gb 1866mhz G.Skill | 128gb SSD + 2×500gb HDD
EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad

i had C2D even, if you buy athlon x4 750K you will get better performance, but i recommend you to get i5 (K) and OC it.

You can buy used i5 2/3/4***

Same story, different guy. I had Q6600 as well and it dropped down to 7 fps in WvW, PvE soloing was 30-45 fps. I doubt having only 2 core CPU would perform better. Like said, the word of the day is Intel’s Core i-series. See for yourself which has the best performance to cost ratio that you can afford and go with it.
