Hi,

I’m having trouble getting sound to work properly over HDMI with my Mac Mini (Late 2012 model, 2.6GHz i7, 16GB RAM, Intel HD 4000 1GB, OSX 10.9.1). As soon as I launch GW2, I no longer have sound at all. When I go into Audio MIDI Setup, GW2 has changed my HDMI format to 44100.0 Hz (which my Pioneer VSX-1022 evidently does not support). Normally, I have my HDMI format set to 96000.0 Hz. I’ve had no problem with any other application in OSX with this setting. If, after GW2 forces it back to 44100, I change it to a higher or lower format, the audio in game is either slowed down or sped up (chipmunks). This only affects GW2 audio. System sounds, Spotify, or any other audio from any other application sounds fine. Any change made to audio settings while in game forces my HDMI format, again, back to 44100.

Is there a way to get normal speed audio while my HDMI format is set to a format that my receiver supports (32000, 48000, 96000 Hz) as well as keep GW2 from switching my format automatically?

Thanks

Strange that your receiver does not support 44.1 kHz. That’s a normal sample rate. I would investigate here to figure out why your receiver won’t work with this output. Try both 16 and 24 bit rates.

96 kHz is extreme. You don’t need that, unless you’re into editing raw audio from live recordings.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I do find it odd that it doesn’t seem to support 44.1K but, since GW2 is the only application on my Mac experiencing a problem with audio over HDMI (no sped up audio with any other app), it made more sense to troubleshoot GW2 than the receiver. Couldn’t really find much on this issue with the receiver using my Google skills.

You could always convert the audio format by rerouting it through logic (or some other audio application, perhaps audacity) through a virtual driver like Soundflower or Jack os X.

Remember that you need to make system audio changes while GW2 is not running. The game does not respond to system audio changes on the fly.

Todd, that doesn’t work since GW2 immediately changes the format to 44.1 when I launch it every time. So if I do make changes, they are reverted when I run GW2.

Xilllix, I do have Soundflower on my machine. Not sure how to reroute to convert through it, though. Any suggestions on how best to do that?

I’m curious if what you’re experiencing is not GW2 changing the audio settings but the Mac OS self-adjusting to the audio output of GW2 that it is detecting.

If you set the Mac OS audio to 44.1 kHz and restart, will your VSX-1022 accept it? Try different bit sizes, starting at 16 and working up. (I doubt that you need the headroom of 24 bit, but your receiver may expect it.)

If that gets your audio working, then test with GW2.

It’s just too strange that your receiver won’t accept 44.1 kHz. Something is wrong there.

If you use it as the default device GW2 should go through it. Then you make a Logic template at your desired sample rate.

Create stereo track in Logic and have inputs (audio pref Sound Flower IN, main physical output OUT ) 1-2 from sound flower activated on that track. Turn on the track monitoring (I button).

The advantage of this is that you could EQ GW2 and add the bit of bass the game is lacking.

It’s all theory here but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

I am getting this same issue. I believe that it’s linked to the fact that this game is not truly ported. It’s running in a wine esque wrapper. With the compatibility layer, it has no real control over audio as it does on the windows version, unless the wrapper itself allows it. I have opened the config files and changed some things to show GPU info, FPS, and increase performance (I have reverted all changes. These were just a test. I am not sure if this violates the TOS, and do not recommend it, just was curious). Point is that the wrapper seems to be what reverts it. Unless they change the wrapper or pert it fully to Mac, then I don’t believe that it can be fixed. I have the same issue when I run Linux and run the game in Wine, which the wrapper is based on. I hope this helps explain. It’d be nice to see a fix though as my audio garbles on other apps unless I switch it back after I’m done playing.
