Will Australian’s ever be offered or supported with at least one Australian dedicated server. It would benefit all your loyal Australian customers and would make us more viable in PvP, raiding and general group / solo game play.

With normal ping of over 300+ without even entering combat or populated areas you can imagine the frustration when we (many Australian’s) enter WvW to do our server justice and are unable to help as we sit on average ping levels of 1000+. I/we love this game and want to enjoy all aspects of the game and that’s why we play it but we are unable to enjoy large amounts of content and it really discourages us from playing this wonderful game.

Please Anet, take the time to read this and possibly consider what is in the best interest of other countries also. And if anyone agrees, please respond below. Thank you and have a good day.

Oh and P.s, I am running a high powered computer, running at around 5Mbps downloads and have no connection issues. Just to clarify any queries and I already have all necessary ports open.

Be aware…if ArenaNet created your one Australian server (data center), there would be no other servers to WvW with. There would need to be, at least, six Australian servers to enable some variety in WvW match-ups, as even with 3 servers, the three would only ever fight against each other.

That is a good point but there must be something they could do to help us with our ridiculous ping levels. It just makes a lot of the content they created unplayable among the Australian community

It is not all Australians though as my ping has an average of 216. Sorry, not trying to rub salt in your wound or invalidate your complaint. I play on a Mac so I have a different set of problems

Perhaps it is your ISP. Could you contact them and ask what you can do to improve it.

No problem, like I stated in my first post, “many Australians”, not all, suffer from this problem. 216 is still very high for a PvP match as most people we play against are below 100 and you will always be behind them in movement… I have played competitively in many games and 216 is deemed ridiculous.

Good connection and no other players, or lots of players and a ping that is either playable or unbearable.

I wouldn’t mind if PVE was the Australian server whilst WVW was on the US server.

^Would still need 3 Australian servers; that, or combine the Australian server population with another server, which might make it initiate the Full Status (because it is based on WvW), and would cause no one to be able to choose that server.

From a practical perspective, it should be possible to matchmake australians (or players in other regions if they also have their own servers) with others in the same region and run the instances from that regions server for the duration. Similar systems have been used in a number of multiplayer FPS games.

Note that I’m not trying to asset that the internal server infrastructure/software used for guild wars 2 remotely resembles modern FPS games, or that this would be easy to do in practice even if arenanet suddenly decided to roll out region based servers which I don’t believe will ever happen.

But it should be feasible to do the same thing with dungeons, fractals, raids etc as long as they are instanced and all of the players are from the same region. You could implement a toggle to allow players to filter the matchmaking systems (LFG tool, SPVP matchmaking etc) to play with others in their region or not to get the best of both worlds.

Well anyway, I’d love to see region based servers but I just don’t see it ever happening.
