Average FPS On Max Settings @ 1920x1080?
@OP There be alot of performance claims on here but not much in terms of a way of sorting ur issue..with that said…
Turn Reflections to terrain And sky, When on ‘All’ it has a massive impact of FPS since its sort of bugged. It will render relfections that aren to even visible. .like underground and out of view. Shadows on Max can also cause a significant drop in certain situations so u could try lowering that.
Make sure ur GPU is running on PCIE x16, GW2 performance drops significantly if its on anything but x16. Try different driver versions, old ,new, and beta’s. try downlcoking ur GPU if its facotry OC’d.. GW2 can be picky. make sure any CPU OC is stable without errors using Prime95. Check out the following thread for more ways of troubleshooting.

All right, first off I would like to clarify that by you saying “Turn Reflections to terrain And sky, When on ‘All’ it has a massive impact of FPS since its sort of bugged. It will render reflections that aren’t to even visible. Like underground and out of view,” does that mean that by turning reflections to terrain and sky I will get more FPS AND more reflections (better quality)?
Also on the PCIx16 topic, my GPU should be in it since it’s a new computer built by a pro company. Also, when I got my computer I have stress tested it and bench-marked it so I know that my CPU is stable (I used Prime95 blend for around 12 hours. And yes, I know that I should probably do the only CPU one sometime, which will probably be before I OC it).
If ur going from ‘All’ to ‘terrain and Sky’ ..u will have less reflections .u wont have tree’s and houses ofr exmaple. What will reflect is exactly what it says ..the terrain..and the sky. The FPS WILL increase if ur changing from ‘All’ to ‘terrain and Sky’.
That is unless ur CPu bottlenecked.
in which case OC’ing is what u need ot od next to get better fps. I Sugest getting as close to 4.5ghz as possible as that is the sweet spot for GW2 to stay above 30 fps in massive WvW battles, and to keep 60 fps in LA with 2nd and 3rd gen i5’s/i7’s.

I might only OC to 4.2ghz as my CPU is only liquid cooled by a Corsair H60.
Also, how much of a difference for eyecandy/FPS does it make when you turn shadows down one notch?
Same shadow detail up close. .but the distance shadows transition from ‘basic’ to ‘complex’ is shorter.
A H60 isnt that good tbh so yea 4.2 is god aim. you can get air coolers that are better than the H60 ..its only really worth going water cooling if u get the H100 or better …or go fully custom.

Hm… well I have around 6 or so case fans too. The H60 gives me around 27C or so @ idle.
Anyone else care to share their FPS?
This is hard to benchmark as the world is large, different maps have different amounts it has to render, so you can stare at your feet, floor or the sky for 180fps

WvW is usually a constant 60fps on ultra settings

Im not entirely sure anymore as other people on this forum say they get 120 -180 fps on a singular card setup. Im just not feeling the extra oomf of SLI

Any card from 7870,660ti or heavy oced 560ti etc can max the game on full hd ( reflections on all and shadows on ultra are kidna buged and eat much fps for now). Most ppl get throtled by cpu in wvw or heavy events. Depending on the map i can get around 100+ fps in some cases with ultra (4.1 i7-3770 and oced 7850) and in other locations its 30 somtimes ( like in lions arch) it depends on the map and player load so yeah you can get 180 fps in some cases on ultra with some locations free of ppl like low level zones.
The BEST place to check FPS in LA is the northern most waypoint. Simply turn the camera and face the mystic forge zomed out as far as u can. That is the most intensive spot.
During the winter event that spot would drop my fps down to exactly 30 fps with settings on max with the exception of. Sampling: native/ Reflections : T&S/ Shadows:high.
Normal LA i get the below results.
I use EVGA PrecisionX for my OSD but it doesnt show up on my screenshots.
So FYI:
1st SS: GPU usuage is Max 99% on Highest playable settings. FPS capped by GPU.
2nd SS: GPU usuage on Lowest settings is about 60%. So FPS is capped by CPU.
So bassicaly u can run GW2 in LA with 80 FPS on max settings if u had a strong enough GPU AND if ur have a CPu with strong single thread performance thats OC’d.
The settings with the lower FPS in the SS alows me to play usualy at 60 FPS, even in LA. But thats just an example the most intensive area. In WvW i drop down to at lowest 30 FPS in HUGE battles. Capped by GPU again but also likely to be close to capping on CPU. Those settings r just balanced for me, meaning in ‘heavy situations’ if the GPU caps out ..the CPU is not far behind it.
As the above poster said. A OC’d 560ti can handle GW2 on the Max settings so long as u dont get silly with the ‘arguably’ bugged and/or inefficient settings.
Reflections: All (Bugged, renders those out of view)
Shadows: Ultra (Bugged, renders those out of view)
Sampling: SuperSampling (Inefficient)

Pawnstar I love your armor and weapon!
Ha ha , why thankyou Willis
Yeah Im pretty much done with the game for now, until an expansion comes out, levelled to 80 in 1 week (been about 2 weeks since i bought it) and grinding of gear wasnt my cup of tea due to +5 to +10 stats from Rare to Exotic
My friends got me into this game after i swore an oath never to play MMOs again after being a Vanilla WoW player (10 toons Max level) as it just felt like The Sims , cosmetics & efficiency, Kinda like Diablo III. But in saying that Luv luv Luv this game and well worth the $$.. cant wait for the next expansions
Just waiting for Crysis 3 to totally melt my computer so I can start thinking of building a new rig with next gens tech. I Love Fast, short games, First person shooters ftw pew! pew!!
Not sure what you mean by reflections (Bugged, renders those out of view)
(edited by PAWNSTAR.2437)
Shadow affects the CPU load.
Its becoue its connected to player movment and such. So even those players out of view will be having their shadow rendered.
As such ‘ultra’ (which has high detailed shadows at long range) has a noticable performance hit in high population areas. On ‘High’ however the high quality shadows r only rendered closer to ur chracter. This includes environmental shadows also. So it has a much lower performance hit. The ‘arguable’ bug with it is that players out of view shouldnt be being rendered in the first place and as such nor should their shadow. Like i said ..is a ‘arguable bug’ ..depends on how u look at it.
Ether way the image quality from high to ultra is realyl not that noticable unless ur looking for it. I used ot run Ultra for a godo month or so till i realised i didnt really see the difference and the extra coupel FPS is always nice in a game thats this starved for FPS in the first place.

Oh i get it now, well yes i totally agree there. Mind you its only lion’s arch map that destroys my comp at Ultra settings, all other maps would be 60 + , Are you saying OC CPUS to 4.5ghz will prevent spinning the camera in a crowded map eg lions arch will be fluent and not bring your fps to a grinding halt for a second or so?
I thought this thread was “Average FPS On Max Settings @ 1920×1080”
lol, almost like BF3 forums : Hey man i can play battlefield 3 on ULTRA settings at 200 Fps but i gotta turn down MSAA and the Resolution and im running a 60hz monitor.
Umm ok … oh geeze ummm. lets just say your Ultra settings isnt ultra settings and it became Custom settings and zomg facepalm !!
Would that play like Halo 2 with 500 FPS without Vsync Capped to 60?
as for supersampling or though not efficient as it could be , the difference between native and supersampling is like night and day
I just thought this game just needs optimisation, a couple of patches here and there etc etc and more SLI Grunt but yes my CPU is letting me down there
after all the latest game releases Hitman absolution, AC3, Far Cry 3 , Im starting to feel the burn as these games on ULTRA settings & Maxed MSAA are just over 60 + fps @ 1920×1080, when i was getting 80fps on Crysis 2 & BF3 @2560 x1600.
So im kinda worried about Crysis 3 as im a big fan of that series.
(edited by PAWNSTAR.2437)
Crysis 3 will need SLI to run at Max i garaunte it.
As for the CPU OC. it will deffinatly help. More so if its a Intel 2nd or 3rd gen i5 or i7…4.5ghz is the sweet spot for those cpu’s as u shouldnt see fps drop below 30 even in WvW battles and even with the fps drops.
Like i said the only time i see it below 30 is after a tab out ..and even then its like 25 for less than a second. The drops still happen just not as bad. Remember the reason its droping is becouse it loading/reloading stuff, the faster ur CPU can process the info and ofload it to ur GPU, the better.
But i will point out that some people ,even with a OC’d i5, say they have issues, so it might well be a funky software issue, of which i have no solution for.

Im hoping to play crysis 3 on Ultra with max msaa.
- 1920 x1080 in 3D &
* 2560 × 1600
Im having my doubts at the moment due to how much detail
is in that game from Videos i have seen already.
Linear & open world , few paths you can navigate through
I m a MSAA nut , if its not crispy as the back of the box advertised , I feel like im
not playing it how the game developers designed it.
And im totally sorry im spamming this thread, i will stop now. I honestly didnt even read the first comment, Yes Willis! That is very normal , turn down stuff to aid your playability & screen size doesnt effect fps, but resolution does.
“the bigger the resolution, the more gpu power it is to drive those little pixels”
Super HD + high levels of MSAA means ur gunna need a crap tonn of DDR5 graphics memory.
Im waiting on the nvidia 700 series and AMD 8000 series cards to come out ..then im getting 1 ..‘maybe’ 2 of their best flagship single GPU cards. That should handle Crysis 3 at 1920×1080 rather well i think
the wait for the new cards is theo nly reason i didnt upgrade my graphcis card along wiht the rets of my rig to what i have now in my sig ..hence why the 560ti looks so out of place compared to the rest of the specs lol.

The last two images showed a good difference in shadow quality. If you look at the arch shadows in the background, the last image is more crisp than the one before.
Aye true but when moving around doing ur own thing that slight difference in ‘blur’ is hardy noticable. And is worth it for those extra fps if u really want them. its personal preference bassicaly

True, but I kind of feel like I’m not getting “the full experience” when all the settings aren’t on high. I really should OC my CPU (and maybe GPU) but it looks like a complicated thing to do. I have a general idea of how to do it, but at the same time I don’t. And I have yet to truly measure my FPS in a big town and WvW field.
Anyway, anyone else want to share their FPS? Or should we let this thread become buried into the hundreds of other threads concerning other problems?
Also, I kind of understand why this thread was moved to Tech Support. However, the part of the forum I posted it in (GW2 Discussion) seems much more relevant to me. I guess it’s for those who need a better idea of why they get lower than expected FPS or something.
Well i dont think anyone is feeling “the full experience” on max settings right across the board from pvp , wvw, pve, cough lions arch. And if they are i want their Overclocked computer. (only Lions arch lets me down)
But going to each map today I still get 60-120 fps avg 80 fps(rarely drops below 60+) on Maximum settings & 3D which everyone is getting on singular cards anyways, with no stuttering with camera view swinging around like crazy, I guess i just learn to repair and sell things in Lions arch at a lower fps lol.
35fps+ aint that bad to do trading and lfg
I would of attached videos of fluent movement through each map for proof but that would just take too long to upload.

Btw WTS ASUS GTX 580 DC II 1.5G x 2 (just sitting around doing nothing)
I’ll take them off your hands for free!
They would help me greatly in allowing me to build my friend a computer who currently uses a toaster.
Also, I have a new monitor coming in today (probably) so I’ll be playing GW2 even more now. ^w^
(edited by Willis.1789)
So, I have been playing the game a bit and realized that in some areas that I run around in my FPS drops to around 31-42 (in order to get 2-5 more FPS I put shadows down to high). However, one time during the wasp queen killing event where at least 20 or so people were, I had a good 50-57 FPS even though there was a lot of things happening at once. And in caves, it’s usually a solid 57-61 FPS.
Strange, huh? Also, at Lion’s Arch I get roughly 34-45ish FPS. I haven’t bothered turning down reflections to “sky and terrain” as I can see a nice difference in quality on water.
I have yet to try out actual WvW though with hundreds of people. My estimate is that I’ll get anywhere from 30-45 FPS (I’ll have to check it out sometime).
I got a i7 2600K Radeon HD 6590 12GB RAM and on everything maxed I get about 58/63FPS all the time.

thats awesome willis, such a pretty game too, those fps are very good for this type of game. 35 min fps is still good in this game as its a 3rd person, sorry i havent been playing much since hitting level 80.
Been in muliplayer BF3 (havent played that for a long time) soo fun HEADSHOT !
& currently replaying crysis series before 3 comes out & Star craft 2 before heart of swarm comes
awww kitten what did they do to batman’s SLI profile
“Be very very quiet im hunting rabbits” far cry 3 always blows me away
But after reading an article last night on one of my NEXT pre orders ALIENS COLONIAL MARINES, the designer said there wasnt gonna be the bells and whistles of DX 11 in it but still have it, which is ashame. it woulda looks soo much better and enhanced the atmosphere.
You should try out some of the latest DX11 GPU hungry games out there for your top of the line 7970 makes this game look cartoony. ummmm haha. oh wait thats borderlands 2 giggles
nothing beats sun flare blinding you as you running staring at the sun and it all disappears and you find yourself looking down the turret of a T90 or the gorgeous reflections of neon lights reflecting off a wet surface as physx is blasting snow around you in Gotham city
soo many titles are graphically pleasing too : hitman absolution, assassins creed 3, Mass effect 3, La noire, Mafia 2, max payne 3, Deus eX, Crysis series , Dirt series etc etc cant list them all
cough there is a 7990 ati’s equivalent beast to gtx 690.
Im still keeping an eye out for Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, Watchdogs, RE6, Tomb Raider, Metro Last Light, Lost planet 3
& inconclusion to the other thread “will my system benefit from SLI” with the games i play, the resolution I play at, or the 3D imersion when i want it & Maxed MSAA & Ultra settings all the way , it sure does 95% of the time… just not feeling it as much in gw2

Tri-Fire 7970s and I get similar performance to OP. Each card only adds a few FPS. 13.1 drivers and latest caps.
