What’s up with the awful performance on Nvidia cards? I searched the issue and many others are having the same problem. Screen freezes, sometimes one color sometimes multiple. Occurs at random, my computer will lock up completely, ctrl alt del does nothing and i’m forced to hard reset.

This is getting extremely annoying. I have never had any issues with my GTX 460 until GW2. My temps are fine, my case is freshly cleaned of dust, parts reseated and all. It’s an issue with this game and nvidia.

Hard to believe this has been happening since beta. Figured you would have had issues like this fixed by release. Please sort it out asap. I’d like to actually play the game for more than 20 minutes without having to hard reset.

Sincerely, annoyed customer.

Have you updated your drivers? I’m running a GTX 465 with the 306.2 beta drivers and haven’t had a problem.

This.

I rarely hit above 30% GPU utilization on my 560.

The same thing is happening to me (I have a GTX 460 card as well). I’ve tried using the new 306.02 driver, but that made things worse (I was freezing and crashing every 10 minutes).

So I’ve gone back to the old 301.42 driver which seems to work a bit better, I can usually play for about an hour before the game either freezes or crashes now.

I’ve tested today gamers notebook MSI GE70 with i7-3610QM and GeForce GTX660M (Kepler) and I’m pleased with perfomance, GPU was used 90-95% in game, same to CPU. Playable with Max settings – 30+FPS at 1920×1080 (driver version 296.31, Win7 64bit, 8GB RAM).

God, this game is making me hate my GTX 670.

First, in WvW, as we now know, most of the burden is shifted over to the cpu. My i5 3570 at 4.5 handles this very well. So well, in fact, that the stupid video card gets bored and randomly downclocks to 2d speeds. Thanks to the Nvidia “Boost” technology, the card thinks it’s not needed and slows itself down, resulting in a huge FPS drop. It’s set to Max performance, etc, in the Nvidia control panel, but that doesn’t matter.

The fix, from what I can tell, is to make the stupid card work hard by making sure reflections and super-sampling are ON, keeping it busy. Now, it would be nice to be able to maintain my max clock speed and turn at least Supersampling OFF and get the extra FPS, but I can’t do that right now.

The second issue some Nvidia 6xxx series users have is that in WvW the screen will mysteriously go black and then come back on, but again, at hugely reduced clock speeds.

1.) The cards are NOT over-heating (neither is the CPU)
2.) The drivers do NOT appear to be crashing.

I was having AWFUL performance with my GTX 670. Even with supersampling and everything cranked all the way up it would not force my GPU to work. I would get 30-50% GPU usage and 20-30 FPS.

I fixed it by going into the NVIDIA control panel and selecting “Prefer maximum performance” for Guild Wars 2 under power management. Now I get 80-99% GPU usage and 45-60 FPS with all the settings cranked. Hope this helps some of you guys.

Yeah, I was using the stable drivers and upgrade to the 306.2 drivers hoping that they might have better performance (because they’re way newer) with GW2. But no dice. Hopefully the next drivers to release will have performance fixes for this game.

I’m going to try the prefer performance selection and crank the settings as high as I can. We’ll see what happens, thanks for the replies!

There is only so much ArenaNet can do without Nvidia having drivers that work properly with this game. I would say harass Nvidia about the horrible performance issues, but their forum is still down. None of their previous drivers have fixes for this game and this goes all the way back to the first BWE. Nvidia users are pretty much stuck with what we got until we get a driver that actually works.

I’m suffering the same problems. As soon as I log in, it stops and gives me an error and forces me to log out. It doesn’t do it everytime, only when I’m doing something extremely important lol
