I recently installed a XFX R7750 Black OC. When I play GW2, and only GW2, after about 20 minutes the screen goes dead and says: No connection detected. I can’t even alt-tab out and I have to reset the whole pc.

I went through the tips at: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Black-Screen-Issue-AMD-ATI/first#post38195 and it didn’t help at all.

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Type x64-based PC
Processor Intel® Core™ i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 3903, 8/22/2012
SMBIOS Version 2.6
Windows Directory C:\Windows

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 7.96 GB
MOTHERBOARD: Asus P9Z68-V LE

Has anyone else had this issue? My nVidia GTX285 works fine, and I can always roll back I suppose, but as this was a present I’d rather not.

NB* I have updated the BIOS and the Card drivers from scratch. No dice.

Have you tried the XFX Support Site? Try not to laugh or cry if you do. :P
But if I get an answer (somehow) i’ll tell you.

Two things, are you sure nothing is overheating because of the new card? I would check your CPU and GPU temperatures to make sure everything isn’t closing in on 90C. If you don’t already have software that can monitor these temperatures, I would recommend using HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe

The second thing is that you have downgraded, the GTX 285 is a better card than the 7750 unless you’re trying to save on power.

Yeah, as I said it was a present. :P
I know that the GTX has a 512bus (big, big pipe) whereas the R7750 takes advantage of DDR5. The 7750 has double the processors however the GTX was a powerhouse when I bought it and remains so, even with a slower clockrate.

It runs oin a 550w psu, and nothing else I have really drains it so power shouldn’t be an issue.

I’ve gone back to the old faithful for now (4 years running, still a top card). The only thing I can think of is that other people with problems in this regard seem to be running PCIe3 cards.

I’m not an absolute tech-head so could just be words on the wind but worth thinking about I suppose.

If I get bored I’ll stick it back in and run the heat checker programs though, it’s a good idea and worth a look into.

All PCIe 3.0 cards should be backwards compatible with 2.0 slots, so I don’t see that being an issue. Your power supply is fine if it runs the GTX 285 since that consumes like double the power than the 7750.

I don’t know the details of how gift giving works in your place of residence, but I too had a problem where I would get parts that were more or less meaningless besides the emotional value attached to it because it was a gift. I don’t want to sound aggressive or anything and I don’t know your feelings about this present, but the way I went around getting computer gifts that people knew little about was just giving them a link to what I wanted. If it was cheap enough they could get the part and everyone would be hunky dory, or, more likely than not it was an expensive part, so I just had them chip in towards it and I would throw the rest down. Just a thought!
