I was just banned 72 hours for an unacceptable name. My name was “Nuglet” and I’m not sure how this is offensive in any way. In any case, I’ll rename my character if I must, but I feel that 72 hours is a little bit excessive given I’ve never had any previous problems playing on this account.
Would appreciate if any insight could be given into my situation. Thanks!
edit: I was able to log in about 30 minutes after my ban. Was forced to rename so I chose Lokk, but miss my old name
ArenaNet is very very strict about player names. Funny part is.
If you read the naming policy you can see that you are not allowed to make a reference to religious or historical figures but in this game that are multiple reference to religious names or even characters.

Well, your name is apparently a synonym for… dump.
well they are a bit hard on the banning for names,
and @ citrus you sure have expierence with getting banned for you name =P
they should atleast give a warning instead of banning right away if the name is not ’’correct’’

They should contact you in game telling you that your name needs to be changed rather than just banning. I agree with Anet having a policy for offensive names but allow people at least one verbal warning and a chance to change the name our-self before a three day ban. Maybe the three day ban after someone has had a verbal warning from a CSR.
I understand the policy is there and its up to us to be responsible with our names but many of us have come from other MMO’s, using these names and wish to carry on using them would be nice to have the chance to change them without any repercussions, if they are deemed offensive to anyone.
Three day ban for us addicts can cause harm to anyone.
I discussed this with the team, and there was some concern about Nuglet. (Not a lot, and I personally am not concerned, but overall it was reported and there are a few references that point to it not being too great.) We appreciate that you renamed the character, just to avoid someone reacting with concern. As you mentioned, you were not suspended, and that’s fair. Thanks for understanding.
Drug references are disallowed, and there are very few people who don’t understand “herb” is a very commonly-used reference to marijuana. Sorry, no. Change the name and you’re good. You also were not suspended.
Remember to rename with wisdom, as a second name block will result in suspension.
