Hello,

Since there are some problems with GW2 optimization, maybe some one tested different drivers and have some results, which AMD CATALYST drivers works best for this game?

I have i5 3750K OC 4.4Ghz and 280x/7950OC crossfire. Crossfire does not help at all, have almost same FPS if i single 280x or both cards in CF. And there are very different results in different zones .. but the most anoying thing is that in large fights and open boss fights it lags like hell 12FPS~.

I have hope someone found something helpful, maybe driver version which works best at the moment or anything … anything … THANKS!

Its mostly the effect overkill on those events i think.

I recently noticed i had only 12 FPS at Svanir Shaman, while i have most 70-120 in the
normal open world. I had character model limit on middle i think.

Next time i set it to low. I had around 50 fps still when doing the pre-events but
as soon as the fight with the shaman started with all those ice-storm it still
went down to 18 fps.

That was with the drivers from last december. I installed the new beta yesterday
but haven’t tested them at world events till now.

I have a i5 2500k and a R9 280x

I have noticed different GPU activity with different drivers, mostly in CROSSFIRE. Newest drivers act strange, both GPU’s works in 50%~60% load range and not more. Older drivers push GPU’s much more, but the result of that isn’t very noticable.

this is from old topic but maybe help u

“actually, its going to depend on your card. Pre HD7000 Series will find that 13.4 will work best for Win7, If they are running Win8/8.1 then 13.12 will work best. Post HD7000 series will find that 13.9 for Win7 and again 13.12 for Win8/8.1”

simple answer : Disable Crossfire for Gw2 : there is ZERO gain for multi gpu setup in this game ( even with SLI ) It can even run better with one card ( also less heat )

Gw2 is all about cpu single thread performance , If you use a old HD 7970 or a new R9 290 you will barely notice anything. GW2 = CPU

Everything work well with 15.3 Beta ( released March 20 )

Agree about CPU.
Disagree about Crossfire.

Reason:
As since I play in Eyefinity, 5760×1080 with 4790K and R9 290X crossfire two way, having Crossfire on lets me get 60 fps or better at Hoelbrak for example when standing down by the middle of the map near the main lodge looking at the bear lodge.

Disabling crossfire for one R9 290X gives me straight line 30 fps with very small fluctuations.

Crossfire hurts performance when the player’s processor is AMD, not Intel.

Running 14.12 simply because I’m too lazy to update to 15.3 and it’s a beta. I don’t generally like betas.

What frame rates in HUGE fights, open world bosses you get with all ULTRA settings?
Maybe someone have i5-3750k and could post your results? Do frame rates drop bellow 20fps? Thanks.

Sorry, but working as intended. There is no cpu nowadays that can handle such huge fights at ultra easily, not even skylake will be able.
It is need like 60 or 70% more single core performance, a thing that won’t happen in the near future.

Here with an i5 4690k at 4.3GHz and r9 285 and I remember getting 20-23fps in The Shatterer.

If you want to have better fps in such heavy situations, you can lower some heavy cpu graphic settings:
- Put Reflections to “Terrain and Sky”.
- Lower shadows to “Medium” or “High”.
- Put WvW Character Limit and Quality to “Medium”.
- Activate “Effect LOD”.

About crossfire, one of the things it doesn’t work properly is because this game really takes advantage of the pcie speed, specially in non stressful situations. When I changed to x16 I went from 70-80fps to 90-130fps in LA without npcs.
Crossfire in LGA1150 is limited to x8 and it cripples the max performance of high end gpu.

Okey thank you, i think you might be right. I will check these settings when i get back home

So most CPU eaters are:
Reflections
Shadows
Character Limit
LOD?

I remember i tried to change shadows to none or low, but only got like 0~5 FPS difference .. the biggest difference i got when i changed wvw character limit and quallity. Anyway, will try again this evening. Thanks again.

Was again at Svanir Shaman last night, and with the same settings like in my first
post, the FPS again went down to under 20. Even since i now had a maximum of
205 FPS in a cave Dredgehaunt Cliffs while mining a rich iron ore.

Also i still had 50-70 FPS while doing the pre-events and destroying the totems, but
all went down when the actual fight began.

So in the end the real framekiller are things for that we don’t have any settings at all.

The framekiller is not a setting, just in those situations there is a huge amount of data your cpu has to render at the same time.
It’s like asking to fill a 50l tank in 2 seconds with a garden hose.

But its mainly the Snowstorm thing it seems. All is fine even with 50+ people running
around .. but as soon as the Shaman fight begins it goes downhill.

So why exactly is there so much more data in that fight that needs to be rendered
than before in the pre-event fights ?

Maybe it’s because the pre-events have multiple targets that are spread, while the boss is only one target who receives all the attacks. In pre-events people are more spread and your computer doesn’t have to render what a lot of them do.

But to be certain, during the fight with the boss, move the camera to the opposite direction where there isn’t the zerg and the boss but you still see the Snowstorm, and check how the fps are behaving.
