This is not a software related issue guys, it is a hardware issue..

Remove the cpu/gpu fan and clean it, until you see no more dusk in it..

Goodluck..

I’m sorry, but that’s not helpful at all… Not all people around here are stupid and don’t know how to clean their fan… If you read anything in that thread, you might have noticed that, but I will force myself to believe that you just wanted to help…

However… I have now cleaned up the drivers mentioned above and restored their original state (how it was before I tried to fix the client crashes). I could now start the game client, but after some time (about 7 minutes) it crashed again giving me the following log entry:

I would like to share a post with you, that could help to solve at least the crashes on client startup and the black screen issue:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/crashes-stopped-finally/first

I will also test this when I’m at home, but I doubt it will fix the corrupted file/archive errors for me. Still it’s more than worth a try

I had the same black screen issue, sometimes it would come back , sometimes not and the game would crash and force me to restart it to play. I tried tons of stuff related to heat, clock speeds, voltage, etc., no luck. Reloaded drivers, went to lower versions, etc. Nothing worked. Decided to give Driver Sweeper a shot and wow it worked. 3-4 days now with no black screens at all (Was multiple times a session previously). Try it out, might not be the answer for everyone, but it totally worked for me.

Follow the steps as instructed. Won’t hurt to try even if it isn’t the fix. Make sure to run it as administrator if on Vista/7. After you’re done, reboot to normal Windows mode and reload the current newest drivers.

[Possible Fix]
1. in windows start search TEMP with percent symbols before and after and find any folders starting with GW2CACHE (i had two folders)
2. open the data folder and delete the cookies file(s)
3. open the cache folder and delete everything in it.
i’ve been experiencing the black screen crashes since i last patched the game, i thought it was odd that there was no cache folder in the gw2 folders, maybe the cookies and cache are holding onto older versions of the game and making it crash? i’m not 100% certain clearing the cookies and cache of the game will be a permanent fix for myself or others, but it might help, i’ve been playing the last 10 hours with no crashes which is a new record for my gameplay in the last week.
-please let me know if this completely fixes anyones crashes-

I just wanted to put my two cents in… I had all the same issues everybody else had, aside from the fact that I’m running an AMD Radeon 7800.

It sounded dumb, but underclocking my GPU by 10% with MSI Afterburner Completely fixed all of my black screens and freezes, with barely (if any) performance reductions. Will report back if I see otherwise. So far, appears to be a (frustrating) but valid temporary fix until AN can formulate something on their end.

Please let us know. If I have to resort to this I will just underclock when ever I want to play GW2.

But that’s really strange and depressing.

I also got an issue where I would get sound from the game client, but it was giving me a black screen and was not responding.

nVidia GT 630
Intle i5 2500
8GB DDR3 1333 ram
2 GB DDR3 Dedicated video ram

In order to fix this, I rolled my driver for my nVidia GT 630 back one update to the second newest driver and that seemed to get Guild Wars 2 working again
