Hey guys I am wanting to purchase a new laptop as i am going to uni however i also aim to run GW2 on max settings (by max I mean like the best you can get out of the game so like visuals and smoothness also Internet connection will not be problem so no need to mention that), the specs for the laptop I am thinking of getting are as follows:

Chassis & Display Optimus Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920×1080)
The screen size doesn’t matter I have a monitor and can hook it up through a HDMI cable.
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4700MQ (2.40GHz) 6MB
Memory (RAM) 8GB SAMSUNG 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (1 × 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M – 2.0GB DDR5 Video RAM – DirectX® 11

I was hoping you could provide me with some feedback and if you think this is suitable for running guildwars 2 on max settings and if not what would you recommend. Price range is around £900 which is around 1400 US dollars.

Thanks in advance.

Thats pritty much what u can expect for that price range.
Its a pitty you cant stretch to ~$2000.
The SAGER NP9570 is a BEAST.
Now im from the Uk myself and tbh i cant find somwhere over here that sells the kitten thing, nor can i find a place that builds laptops with the main selling point that laptop has..that bing the LGA 2011 Desktop CPU chipset.

Ah ok as i was writing this i finaly found it.
PCspecialist had it listed wrong. it said 3rd gen CPu’s so i didnt bother checking however i found a forum post commenting on the @omega’ laptop so i took a look. it actualy uses the CPU’s im on about , they are infact 2nd gen but the selling point is they are Desktop CPU’s ..so now downclocking when using multiple cores like mobile CPU’s do

its over your budget ..way over ..but its food for thought.
The annoying thing is the websites iv found over here in the Uk that have this model available to customize limit you to having SLI GPU’s which hikesu p the price. Atleats the US company i know of allows a single GPU allowing the price to sit at $2000.

One question though. are you likely to haul this laptop wiht you into lessons/seminars ?
If your answere is no, then you should look into building a LAN gaming PC. they are much smalelr than ur regular Desktop and thus shouldnt provide any issues with transporting it to your Uni, and they can provide more gaming performance than a laptop of a simular price. However u cant obviosly go bringing the rig into ur lessons lol.

I am actually using pcspecialists and it is using 4th gen intel i7 processor. It does have to be a laptop as my current desktop for gaming is really good it can play most games in max settings. Laptop is a must for general portability I won’t be hauling it with everywhere I go as I have an iPad plus pen paper is what I will be using when taking notes. I was just wondering whether a laptop with the specs I mentioned above will be able to run GW 2 at max settings as that’s gonna be the only game I gonna play on it as Xbox one coming out soon.

Well no laptop can really handle GW2 at max, not WvW /LA/large dynamic events anyway.
PvE will be fine however.
Bassicaly anywhere in GW2 where u can expect the CPU to be stressed, thats where FPS will be lower than ur Desktop (asuming ur desktop has a strong Intel CPU)

laptop cpu’s run at a slower clock when more of its cores are in use, this is to reduce heat and power usuage mainly. Becouse of this GW2 is a game that shows a disadvantage on laptops over desktops. Hence why i pointed out those laptops that use desktop CPU’s.

if ur really not gunan haul it around wiht u and simply want a laptop for its easy of transportation to ur Uni accomodation then i highley recommened looking into building a Mid range LAN gaming Desktop.
Find a Desktop case that is M-ITX compatable. These are small.
Then get ahold of a Asus M-ITX perfomance motherboard.
Stick a normal desktop CPU in, a cheap AMD grpahics card like a 7870XT or 7950.
Some RAM and the usual parts.
Then find some slim line compact portable keyboard and a micro laptop style mouse. And finaly a Monitor that is to ur likeing.
Bundle that into a large backback/travelbag/rucksack, and its as portable as it needs to be for such a journey.
And most importantly, it will be cheaper (or same price) and more powerfull than any Laptop u can get.

EDIT: infact if u buy the Asus M-ITX motherboard using the same chipset as ur main Desktop at home, u could simply then transfer over most the components from ur home desktop rig into the smaller case/motherboard and save LOADS of money in the process. This is asuming ur home desktop will be not in use whilst ur gone and ofc that ur rig is easily dissasembled (i.e it doesnt have a custom water loop).

Thanks for your response I was wondering whether it was true that if you use a cooling mat for your laptop it assists with boosting your processor performance as it does not overheat is this true ?

Any proper gaming laptop with good design should not overheat if the vents are not blocked. Thus the CPU should not throttle back, therefor a cooling pad will not increase performance.
However, many laptops do indeed overheat due to bad design and thats where laptop cooling pads help.

That said a cooling pad will not stop the CPU’s from downclocking when more cores are in use, thats locked in the Bios settings, BIOS settings that are usualy unable to be adjusted by the user, unlike in Desktops.

EDIT: I know I sound like i got a downer on laptops, its not that though. They have there place, and are very usefull. But gaming systems on a budget they are not.
