So. I’m buying a new computer and I can’t decide on CPU. I want my WvW to run smooth in big battles. I was thinking of buying Intel i5 3570 and probably Radeon 7850 2gb (if that matters).

Can you please post your configuration and fps count in WvW (also tell me the gfx settings you’re using). And if someone has too much time you can suggest the whole configuration. Up to about 850$.

Thank you in advance!

WvW is all about CPU power. Get a 3570k version. Lets you overclock. It will do very well. Probably doesn’t get much better than that atm.

The 3570k wil lrun it fine but only if you OC (4.3ghz+) it so make sure ot get some good top end air cooling or water cooling like the Evo 212 (budget), Noctua NH-D14 (top end air), or Corsair H100 (water).

Another option is the Intel i5 2500k/2550k which is 2nd generation not 3rd. . but OC’s easier and higher so 4.5ghz+ on those cooler above.

All current cpu’s out at stock speed will strugle in heavy WvW battles so you really do need to OC for best performance, thankfully OC’ing with Intel newer cpu’s is really easy so long as you dont go to high.

EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad
CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |

Think i should expand on what i said about performance.

When i said a stock cpu’s will struglle in heavy WvW , i mean:

Heavy = 40+ people (acutaly 40+ ..not just .oh that looks like alot ill call it 40)
Struggle = being less than 30fps.

EDIT: i run a 560ti ..check my sig.

My GPU does max out in GW2 in both PVE ..and in PVP when battles are big (40+), and thus my fps drops. However i run on max settings ..so if i wanted i could go down on some options. Even still i dont drop below 30 fps.
My GPU is my rigs bottleneck atm, i didnt upgrade it with the rest of my unit becouse im waiting on Nvidis 700 series or AMD 8000 series gpu’s which should be about some time in the 1st half of next year.

However atm i recommend AMD’s 7950, as its the same cost as a GTX 660ti but with AMD’s latest drivers ..totaly out performs it.

No matter what rig you buy, it’s probably not going to run smooth in WvWvW (everyone has FPS dips in big battles). But if you want just the best system – according to a lot of the posts on the forum, you want an Intel CPU with a brand new card. An old AMD CPU would work fine… but both phenom and bulldozer (I have this CPU) have major issues in terms of working with the GW2 engine on resources.

Again, I think you should go with a mediocre vid. card but talk to more players about “who thinks their GW2 is running flawlessly in GW2’s WvWvW”, and just get their CPU . GW2 engines seems to be picky about which CPU it wants to run well with :S

This will run it about the best it will run ready to overclock the CPU $850 US if you get the $40 in rebates but never count on them their usally slow. Includes the operating system dident know if you needed that.

I would go 7950 or 660ti for VC. If you are getting a new system, you may as well pair it up a little better between CPU and GPU. You might not see it in GW2, but in other games you will and you don’t want to buy a new pc and then have to upgrade anything in the near future. 7850 is a little on the low end for the 3570.

I made a video about the Ivy Bridge and Vishera cpus running the game in Lion’s Arch and open world. I didn’t have time to show WvW but generally WvW is about 10-15 fps worse than Lion’s Arch depending on the battle activity.

From the video I show that the i5-3570k generally averages about 12-15fps higher than the FX8350.
