CPU AMD only
what video card are you using.
AMD’s latest drivers have performance regressions unless you update CAP.
I’m using a nvidia 560ti and what is the full wording for CAP
Catalyst Application Profiles

oo soo how do I update this CAP can I get a link to it
Just how Bad is your FPS ? and what are your ingame settings ? This info will help us better determine how to best help you.
hey Genju, the Catalys application profiles is for AMD video card’s only. I have the exact same setup, AMDFX 8120, GTX560 and 16gb RAM 1600mhz, and i struggle betwen 30-60 FPS (lionĀ“s arch 25-35fps) so .. the problem we have is not the video card.. is our CPU.. apparently Gw2 doesn’t like AMD FX cpus
Genju never posted what fps he is getting and where… so we can only just speculate as to what is wrong (could be CPU bottleneck, could be GPU running at wrong bus speed, or etc…)
Not really that GW2 dislike AMD, its just that AMD perform much worse than INTEL in terms of single thread performance (See Q15 for details here)
Also, having more than 3-4 CPU cores does not help improve GW2 performance. (See Q8 for details here)
You can verify, confirm and analyze that your CPU is being bottlnecked by monitoring cpu/gpu usages during gameplay. (See Q4-9 for details here)

Kind of on topic, but can the latest Catalyst drivers (12.10 I think) allow control of video card fans? I haven’t updated my drivers from 12.4 for this very reason, because they won’t support fan control in subsequent versions and I can’t find info on this even on the Catalyst page. I have two independently running GPU’s; one for the main display (HD7870) but I also have a HD4870 which I occasionally use for external video out to an LCD TV only. I can’t control the fan on this video card thanks to the Catalyst versions post-12.4, however GW2 and everything else run perfectly fine without the driver update (or as good as I can get it to run).
This being said, I also have an AMD CPU (FX-8150) and low framerates are part and parcel of the bottlenecking. I’ve tried running it on /affinity 55 (cores 0, 2, 4 & 6) but without a significant improvement. Thanks for any info on the Catalyst driver details though.

well like in LA or if im with some huge group my fps drops down to like 10 and below but like around unpopulated areas im around in the 20s and my setting on GW2 everything is on high but like AA, reflection, shadows, shaders not sure what else are like turned off to medium also i just overclock my cpu up the 4.3ghz havent tested it out yet
buy a better cpu cooling setup and overclock your cpu to 4.5ghz. Your game will then run the best as it can on an AMD cpu.

Same cpu but at 4.8ghz, with 2x 560ti’s,im honestly running the game flawless, 80 + fps in wvwvw, when it gets Really busy it drops to about 30 – 40.Everything maxed out, just shadows on high not ultra since its uberbuggy. If you’re gonna oc,make sure you got some proper cooling and you know what youre doing,i suggest going to overclock.net and join the huge Amd oc topic to get the best perf out of your cpu.
well my cooling system should be fine using a corsair h80 liquid cooler at max and my tower is a coolermaster soo its gettin a lot of airflow i tested out the overclock at 4.3ghz earlier i’ve gotten that blue screen and also crashed out of the game, i’m pretty new to overclockin anyways >_<
The cooling should be there. It also depends on your motherboard and ram. Sometimes you also get a low OC chip.
if 4.2 is all you can do, you will have to live with it.
well like i said im still new to overclockin so im not sure if im doin it right soo i went back down to 3.7ghz for now till i learn more but i do hv like 16gb of ram and also have the asus crosshair V formula motherboard
did you disable Cool n Quiet and any power saving features?
you should be able to get higher than 4.2. If you are at 4.2ghz, you should try raising the base clock slightly to get better performance. run something in prime95 to check stability.
If your crashing at 4.3 then you need more volts but please read a guide you don’t want to ruin your cpu.
I am running the game on an FX-8350 @ stock 4Ghz. I did a short 2 minute Fraps test in open world and the average frame rate is 53fps. In open world on FX-8350 @ 1080p or 1200p frame rate varies from 40-70fps. Compared to my older computer running a i5-3570k it seems the only time the AMD cpu dips in frame rate is when lots of npcs and player characters are on screen.
I’ve also found that going into the taverns and buildings that have npcs drops frames to ~47fps on the AMD. This does not happen on the intel i5. I’m not sure why this happens but I think the game could be better optimized so that these sort of frame drops on AMD systems doesn’t occur.
Overclocking the 8350 to 4.3Ghz yields negligible fps increases since it seems that in the same locations where the frames drop there isn’t much anything that can be done hardware tweekingwise.
It happens becouse AMD cpu’s are not a strong on single thread performance compared to Intel. They can OC to big numbers and have lots of cores ..but since GW2 gets most it performance from single threads, it gets more performance from Intel.

Soo I have the AMD FX 8120 overclocked to 3.8ghz and still havin pretty bad fps and also have my GPU overclocked also…I know that this game is heavy on CPU so is this 8 core even a good choice to play this game if not what is a better AMD cpu to use for this game, cuz I can’t spend anymore money to make a new computer just to use intel cpu.
Well, the Piledriver FX 8320/8350 are out and they’re incrementally faster than the 8120/8150, but not really worth a $200 investment for literally a few extra frames here and there. I’m afraid your only recourse is to push your overclock further or save up for a bigger upgrade. All processors choke somewhat when you’re in busy places, Intel included.
The fact that your processor has eight cores doesn’t mean a whole lot if the app you’re running on it isn’t running highly performance-sensitive threads in each core. GW2 makes good use of four cores, no matter how many you have available.
I have a video that compares the game’s open world fps and the fps in LA on both an FX-8350 and the i5-3570K. The above poster is correct. All processors choke in the busy areas as shown in the video.
Note: Both are running in stock configurations (8350 @ 4.0Ghz | 3570k @ 3.4Ghz)

What a delight to see someone with common sense on this board !
As for the OP,i also got the Crosshair Formula V,so if you want me to pm you some settings to get you to 4.4 atleast with that h60 just send me a mssg.

AMD fx 8350 scores 1533
Intel i5-3570 scores 2014
seems about right for higher fps with the intel

Stock, AMD is a good competitor. But once you OC both, the Intel is the better choice. And to be honest if you want to play WvW with GW2 properly you NEED to OC, becouse stock just wont cut it unless you ok with sub 30fps in big fights.

Im playing with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ and i haven’t had the slightest bit of trouble with FPS, lag, or disconnections of the like.
The issue with GW2 is that it doesn’t perform well with newer technologies like more recent graphics cards and 6+ cpu core processing.
Seekerking. i mean no disrespect when i say this ..but. I would have to see a vid of you getting no fps issues in WvW battles with that cpu before i beleve your statement

If you look in the task manager while GW2 runs it uses 4 cores. Any i7 and the FX-8350 will show this behavior. One thing I have found though is that on the i7 cpus when in WvW there is a 5th core that gets activated but it’s utilization never goes up that high. Also 1 or 2 cores go way up in utilization in WvW.
For some reason during those same scenarios the FX-8350 doesn’t activate any more threads keeping the game strictly to 4 cores. Though I could be wrong in assuming that GW2 is using that 5th core on the i7. Perhaps there really could be some optimization done for the AMD cpus.
Probably something to do with how windows 7 OS schedules the threads like in this article.
