So I’m running gw2 on a MacBook Pro -

Processor - 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Mem - 4gb 1333 Mhz DDR3
Graphics - Radeon HD 6770 1024
on Lion

I run on minimum settings and can get up to 70 fps.
The problem is that when I run gw2 and check the system processes, it runs at around 280% which means that the laptop gets hot as hell and lags the game more and more.
Is there a fix for this or is it normal to be getting this much crazy usage?

The solution is to buy a gaming PC. Laptops will run hot when you run games on them (or encode videos etc). It’s normal.

A workaround is to enable the frame rate limit. I have mine set to 30 fps. If you don’t put a limit you can not reduce the load on the system, since it will try to pump out as many fps as possible.

The unibodys get hot when under a load. Download SMC Fan Control and it will help, also play on a hard flat surface and/or get a laptop cooling pad.

Yep – I agree. It really does help using SMC Fan Control and use max setting with a cooling pad.

Max temp reaches at most 183 Fahrenheit.

Sadly, the keys will always feel hot as there is no fix yet for this.

Go to the graphics options and set the frame limiter to 30 FPS. That should prevent it from getting too hot.
