Hi all,

although not caused by GW2, I have an issue that prevents me from properly playing the game. I got an Intel i5 3.4 ghz but amazingly, the CPU runs at half speed (literally 1596 mhz) even while under load. My compliments to the GW2 tech support that helped me identifiy the issue.

Does anyone have exp with a similar issue? How to fix this? Stuff I tried up until now:

- checked bios / driver updates
- checked power management on the desktop, made sure max performance is ticked
- went into BIOS and turned off Intel speedstep (EIST) and the Cx settings
- monitoring under load done via several programs, most notably speccy

Thanks for any help

Download prime95 or superPI and monitor clockspeed with cpu-z while running those, perhaps speccy just shows wrong? Also run 3dmark so u can BE sure IF your cpu underperforms.(check what same processor should score and compare your own result to that)

Also go to BIOS and check power saving options again, so your cpu can take nap when ur not doing anything.(Also not so high bills!)

Also go to BIOS and reset back to factory settings or check that your CPU multiplier and base clock speed are normal (resetting to factory should do this)

Is this a new system build, or did you upgrade your CPU/Motherboard? Maybe the PSU doesnt have enough power to push the 3.4Ghz Clock.

As suggested, start with resetting your BIOS (if you are using AHCI you will need to reset your SATA controller else Windows will BSOD), and verify your Clock speeds with CPU-Z, verify your CPU temp with CoreTemp, and run Prime95.

Default Clock your i5 should be at 55-60c under full load. If it gets hotter (80c+) it will throttle. So pay close attention to CoreTemp when Prime95 is running.

also while Prime95 is running (15-20mins) feel your PSU and make sure its not burning up. If its getting hot, you will need to replace it (not powerful enough for your CPU).

So, bios reset to optimal defaults and tried out the 3D mark. The results would be:

Processor: Intel Core i5-3570
Reported stock core clock: 3,800 MHz
Maximum turbo core clock: 1,596 MHz
Physical / logical processors: 1 / 4
number of cores: 4
Package: LGA1155
Manufacturing process: 22 nm
TDP: 77 W

Right ahead, should not the maximum turbo clock core exceed even the 3.4ghz stock if it works correctly? The 1.6ghz would not make any sense with the exception of proving the theory that something is amiss and the CPU does actually cut power to half.

As per temperatures, no issue – I checked multiple programs, bios, the CPU temp is like 40 degrees celzius.
