I’ve noticed the game even throttles my CPU to 100% from around 40% while just having the game loader open. Let alone if running. The only way it’s borderline playable for me is if I disable the sound via command line in program properties.

you have a q6600 and only run it at 2.40GHz………

your videocard is pretty weak as well…..8600gt was a good card years ago when it came out…..now its REALLY weak…..weaker then the AMD A serise apu’s have onboard from my exp…..

my suggestion, update your video and audio drivers, go into the video drivers control panel and set it to performance mode, then go into the game and set it to minimum everything, if thats not enough drop the resolution…….

still kinda shocks me anybody would have a nice chip like a q6600 and would run it at stock…..
oh yeah, more ram wouldnt hurt…..

if you can upgrade any, cheapest rout would be to get a newer videocard and more ram, then give that cpu a bump with some overclocking(if you need help try overclockers.net or xtremesystems, should be pretty easy to get it to over 3ghz considering the lesser models went well past that with stock cooling.

could be a problem with the usb headphones drivers

The Q6600 is just fine, its what I use and the game is smooth. The 8600gt however is wholly inadequate and should be replaced. The 2 gigs of ram is also going to cause you problems, the game will constantly hit your hard drive to load data and that is lost frames.
