So I’ve had some internet sketchiness lately, and have had to restart my modem a few times in the past few days. Every time this happens, of course, I get assigned a new IP address. This is fine, except every time THAT happens, I get prevented from logging into GW2 until I go through an email authentication process.

To preempt any “dude it’s not that big a deal” or “it only takes a second” comments: yes, I know it only takes a second. I just feel it’s a completely unnecessary second, and I’m happy to “risk it” and not have to do it.

A log-in attempt from the following location is currently awaiting your authorization.

Address: <one or two digits difference from the previous one>
City: Sydney
Region: 02
Country: AU

This location is approximated based on information provided by your Internet Service Provider. If in doubt, deny the request and try again.

If you are certain this log-in attempt was not made by you, then someone else knows your log-in credentials and you should change your password immediately via Account Management.

For security purposes, we alert you each time your account is accessed from an unrecognized location. To authenticate this log-in attempt, please click the link below:

I’m not actually logging in from a different location at all. In fact my IP address only changed by a couple digits. This happens every time my modem reboots, and is a nuisance that I’d really rather disable. I honestly don’t feel the tiny amount of security it adds is at all necessary or worth the inconvenience.

I’m guessing in this current age of overzealous MMO security that turning this off probably isn’t an option, but it can’t hurt to ask.

Please?

The problem with the youth of today is that one is no longer part of it.

Send in a ticket and I believe they can disable it from there. Best of luck to you!

Hi,

You can disable email authentication with the help of the Support. Contact the team by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page.

You can also read this topic about dynamic IP HERE, and that one about Authentication questions HERE.

We lock this topic, thanks for your contributions.
