I recently spent between $300 and $400 dollars on gems so I could level one of each profession to 80 and exotic gear them. And I was REALLY enjoying the game. Then today’s update went through and destroyed my UI on my triple monitor Eyefinity setup. Based on one of the dev’s responses, it doesn’t seem like they are going to do anything to fix it either.

So my question is, since you don’t seem to care about your repeat paying customers, how can I get all my money back? Or did ANet just trick me out of a bunch of money and then laugh in my face when I told them they broke something? There is about 50 posts of people affected on the Tech Support forums too.

But for those players with single monitors or Nvidia Surround setups, you won’t be experiencing this problem. It only seems to be happening to AMD Eyefinity users. It worked fine (for the most part) then the Dev’s broke it in this latest update and claim its working the way it’s supposed to. Which translates to, “Oh well, you’re a small minority so we don’t care if you’re upset so we’re not fixing it.”

Pretty much what they did was take all the UI elements (Chat window, Ability Bars, Mini-Map, etc) and squish them all together in the center of the screen so you can’t see what the heck is even going on. Anyway, I digress. I just purchased all these gems within the past couple weeks. So how can I get all my wasted money back since they don’t care if I am unable to play the game now?

Thanks.

I’ve heard of cases where they’ve refunded gems, but since you’ve used them in a way that’s not refundable and with intention (I’m assuming you bought character slots and bought your way to level 80), I doubt they would offer you a refund.

However, you can go the extreme route and request a refund on your entire account to get everything refunded or issue a charge back on the gems, which will get you the money back for the gems, but also suspend your account.

Well you put gems to gold and bought things with it so i would say your not entitled to a refund. If you just bought the gems and felt as if your not going to need them you may be able to get a refund.
Its a lot like buying a pc for one game then going to that pc maker to buy a game and you find out that game dose not work on your pc you bought from them yes you can get a refund on the game on some level but you will not be able to get a refund on the pc too.

I like how people assume Anet doesn’t care, or won’t do anything. If it’s a problem that just appeared, Anet probably doesn’t know what to do about it yet. Anet does fix bugs and has fixed bugs for many people.

But bugs because the game crashes on “your” machine, or other problems that come with a new patch are new bugs and Anet has to analyze and check into them before they actually can do anything about it.

It’s not like Anet introduced a bug intentionally, so they don’t know where it is or what caused it. You can bet they’ll be working on it, but yeah…sometime bugs take time to track down.

Anyone who’s ever worked in software development will back me up. A hundred coders working on a program make it hard to tell who did what and when.

Sure it sucks, I get that. But saying that they won’t do anything because they haven’t done something less than a day after a bug was reported is just not realistic.

The game isn’t displaying textures properly every now and then, the character models appear on a green/blue shade very scarry and sometimes it lags and glitches like snow squares all over LA.

I have a GT240 and this was NOT happening before today’s update.

I heard about this thing where you could play GW2 using one monitor or even two monitors.

Just do that while they fix the problem. Considering a fraction of players use two monitors and an even smaller fraction use three+ monitors, your issue will never be a high priority.

I share your pain OP. I posted over in the tech support forums that there’s somewhat of a workaround if you change your game to run in “windowed” mode. It’s not perfect because of the crappy borders that puts around the screen, but at least it shifts the UI elements back to the left/right.

In the meantime, it looks like they’re taking a lot of flack over there, so hopefully we can shame them into fixing the issue. Or better yet, giving us the disturbingly obvious solution – the ability to move UI elements like pretty much every other MMO has had since … um, GW1?

For every claim that Anet helped them, another user will pop up saying the game has crashed. You can google guild wars 2 32 bit crash. More often than not, it has something to do with insufficient memory and a specific GPU (but I may be wrong.) In my case, I gave up on Anet fixing their memory leaks/usage codings and used win 64 bits with 8 gb ram.

Problem solved. And no, I did not reinstall a fresh new copy. Same PC with multi boot 32 bits and 64 bits, and only 32 bits suffered. In any case, the competence over their codings (unable to increase FPS in large WvW fights, even when I’m running a quad 4400 ghz intel 2500k…) has led me to believe they can’t optimize/fix issues, and if they do manage to solve it, good for us. Otherwise we play by Anet’s rules.

What exactly does this prove? lmao

For every person who was helped, how many of them came to the forums to say they were helped. In fact, what percentage of the people on those sites have been helped and didn’t come back to say so (which a lot of people don’t).

All that shows is that thousands of people might be crashing out of hundreds of thousands. What percentage of those were helped? Do you know?

Weird my 14yr old uses my old Vista 32bit PC with an old Intel dual core CPU, 4GB DDR3 RAM and an Nvidia GTX 550Ti.. he gets pretty stable 40+FPS in the game, its never crashed and in large zerg fights in WvW he still sees 15-25 FP, which is more than playable, especially since the culling fixes last patch. – What is annoying is the server side skill delays that have gotten worse but I don’t really think there is anything we can do about that… that’s Anets issue and I hope that’s taken seriously by them and get it fixed.
My i7 3700K, Win7 64bit with 16GB DDR3, dual Nvidia GTX560Ti’s perform only a smidge better except I run off an SSD which helps with load times… but to date never crashed on either system… that is where the issue for Anet starts.. so many PC’s with so many variants, then add to that every PC might have something a little different running alongside it software wise, different anti-virus software, different ISP’s etc etc etc… its a mine field out there , but I am sure at some point it might get sorted… depends where you are on the priority ladder I guess.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here. I’m stating that Anet has a huge problem on handling the memory problem. Many users have to do their own band-aid solution of using a program that allows 32 bit users to have over >3gb usage ram on a single program.

A) Anet didn’t solve it. Since launch.
B) Anet keeps quiet about it. There is no solution, no explanation as to why certain users have this problem.

I can’t explain it any better to you that there are multiple users who experienced this issue, and Anet not doing anything about it. There are certainly a great number of issues users experience, and Anet does help them out within a certain limitation. WvW clearly affected everyone, and it took Anet 6-7 months to finally get to it.

What about this out of memory crash? Anet keeps quiet about it, users have to find their own solutions. Another minor bug with eye-infinity is a priority for the devs to fix? Not at all, and if anything it’s in the low priorities. And since you already know how the scene works, where the left hand does not know what the right hand does, expect Anet not to fix the issue until they truly have nothing better to fix. I don’t need to assume something to know Anet is not going to bother about a problem this “minor”. It’s just the limitations behind everything else.

What I am saying is there are lots and lots of variants in regards to players rigs… to be 100% stable for every one is nigh impossible and sometimes things don’t work out for a some players… and some get fixed reasonably quick others not so quick and unfortunately some might never be fixed due to the nature of the incompatibility.
Show me any MMO or SP game that can boast such a flawless compatibility across the globe, cos imo such a game wont exist.

Sure sometimes patches break things and I hate it when it does but sounding off in a forum about a tri-monitor flaw that’s emerged and demanding a refund on gems when actually the game is still more than playable on a single or dual monitor setup is laughable, especially the way the OP has gone about it…. yes the patch has likely messed up his tri-monitor Eyefinity usage, for now but the fix might take time or it might be fixed in hours, who knows I mean the patch isn’t even 24hrs old yet, cmon lets not get to hasty.

In regards to your memory leak issues.. again pretty much evey MMO I have played has this pop up, especially when it creeps up the longer your playing, so as general rule I tell my son to log off every hour and relog… a workaround you may say, but I call it preventative measures. Though I have never actually witnessed any issues on his PC due to memory leaking but that’s the point… everyone has different setups and to date I have not utilised any tweaks or workarounds to get things to wotk other than driver updates and routine defrags, virus checks. Granted before I loaded it up for him I did add an extra 1GB of memory, maybe that helped.. paired memory at that.

If the UI is on the wrong screen, make sure your center screen is setup as your primary display. I believe this is set in the Windows resolution settings or the Eyefinity setup wizard.

Regarding the switch to “cram” the UI on the center screen:
This is how the UI has always functioned on Nvidia Surround. We never had support for AMD graphics until now, so now they both function the same, using the same code.

If there are issues with the current functionality like the UI not scaling correctly at different sizes, we’ll look into it.

Anet. like every software company, has people working on bugs. Bugs are always prioritized. YOU say it’s a huge problem. But maybe it’s not a huge problem. But there are 10,000 people who can’t use the game, and there are 406 problems causing that. One bug fix won’t work for all of them.

So, stay with me here, if some people had freezed that did get fixed, and I know for a fact they have, then Anet has been working on the problem, and they just didn’t fix specific bugs.

To say they’re not working on it is just inventing something out of frustration.

It is quite possible that other things are causing your graphics problems, such as your graphics card, and it is not the game itself. Whilst you can say that the graphics card runs ok with other software, this software also runs ok with other graphics cards on other PCs.

It’s very obvious I don’t know if they are working on it. They don’t even address the issue at all in the tech forum much! The best part is you talking about “freezing” where the issue I’m talking about is a out of memory crash. Even if there are indeed multiple platforms across that require addressing, they are not releasing any information at all on this issue, despite numerous topic created to ask about the crash.

So I don’t know what to say. You keep on going on about inane things like “How do you know Anet’s not fixing…” where I can never be able to give an affirmation as to whether Anet is doing something to resolve this issue. Here’s someone from the forums posting about this issue.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FAQ-Frequently-Asked-Questions-Compilation/first#post1095415

This is a compilation of FAQ in the tech support forum. This is a work-in-progress. If you have additional questions with solutions post in this thread and I will incorporate them in the list.

This crash is due to limitations of the Windows 32bit architecture’s . Virtually Window will give applications 2gb and reserve 2gb for it’s kernel. When GW2 starts going past 2gb limit by loading textures etc it will crash. Lowering graphic settings will prolong the time before a crash.

There are three options to fix this.

Wait for Anet to fix their code to work within the limits of 32bit
Upgrade to Windows 64bit
Try /3GB switch workaround method. This has it’s drawback, but for most users it should be fine.

- Source: Kirito

And this information came from a user, not the devs. Inventing something out of frustration? What a joke. Stop making yourself look silly please… All I know is this issue has been going on since launch, and if this problem hasn’t been resolved even till this April (where I last used 32 bits and still crashed), I doubt Anet’s willing to fix this anytime soon.

If the GUI for eyeinfinity takes 5 mins to fix, of course Anet can repair it. Since the memory leak hasn’t been resolved, it will probably take an entire rehaul of the codes.

Also I said huge problem on handling memory codes, not a huge game breaking bug/problem.

32 bit windows memory management is just plain worse than 64 bit. A program running under 64 bit windows got more memory available to work and has less fragmentation issues. ANet doesn’t want to spend much time working on your problem because 32 bit windows installations are fading out. Heck, we just celebrated the 10th anniversary since AMD created the first 64 bit PC we use :p

Just do a charge back :-)

That is absolutely the worst possible option. If someone does a charge back, we have no option but to permanently terminate the account. This means that people who did a charge-back in a knee-jerk reaction to a game change, and then later wanted to come back, lost everything.

We help with refunds, and our policies are not harsh. But please never suggest that a charge back is the reputable or respectful way to deal with any company as a first option. Final option for some companies? Perhaps. For us, it’s not necessary and it’s entirely self-defeating.

Thanks.

I cannot locate the dev’s response, but I’ll see if I can find it. I want to say that I’m not sure why you’re posting in Account Issues when (1) no one here can actually help you (and yet Support can), and (2) you have a technical issue and should post your questions/concerns in the Tech Support forum.

I like how people assume Anet doesn’t care, or won’t do anything. If it’s a problem that just appeared, Anet probably doesn’t know what to do about it yet. Anet does fix bugs and has fixed bugs for many people.

Anyone who’s ever worked in software development will back me up. A hundred coders working on a program make it hard to tell who did what and when.

Sure it sucks, I get that. But saying that they won’t do anything because they haven’t done something less than a day after a bug was reported is just not realistic.

Anet hasn’t spoken a word since the launch, that’s like 8 months and counting. Assuming is hardly a fair word to describe our (the people who crash on win 32 bits) discontent. In the end our fix is buying windows 64 bits? Hah. Good for them if they manage to fix it, but I’m not holding my breath.

There’s only one problem with your response to me. Anet has helped a whole lot of people who crash in that time. We’ve seen posts of it before. Two people like that are in my guild. They had crashes and Anet fixed them. What they didn’t fix was YOUR crash.

Are you working with customer service directly?

Yes, that IS the question. And contacting Support IS the way we can best help address this issue and, if possible and appropriate, fix the problem. (By “appropriate” I mean we can’t offer to give a system problem on your side, naturally. And the use of three monitors seems an edge case, but hey, that’s just me and TS can tell you much more.)
