Guild Wars 2

I had to uninstall Guild Wars 2 from my SSD because I ran out of space and now I’m trying to install it back on my HDD but when I click on the install button, I am NOT asked to chose the installation location and it de facto installs it on my SDD, even tho I downloaded the .EXE file on the HDD.

Try this:
Start the download, let it run for a little while just to get the gw2.exe and gw2.dat files built in the installation folder.

Take the installation folder which is normally in
C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2

and copy it to the desired harddrive location
D:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\

From that folder you can make a shortcut on the desktop which will start the launcher and download the rest of the gw2.dat directly to your D drive.

You didn’t even have to uninstall it. All you had to do is copy it from the SSD to the HDD, delete it from the SSD and fix the shortcuts.

wow!!! so you can`t choose the folder you want ??? how hard is that to do ? at least let us select a drive if not a folder .

Haha that was my first of 2 problems. For reasons unknown to science you cannot pick in the year 2017, the folder for it to install to…Dont ask me why.

Ok, so it’s been like this for a while now. Encountered this problem today. Good to know there’s a workaround as I don’t have enough space on the hard drive it wants to install itself to.

OMG why hasn’t this been fixed yet. I had a friend who tied to reinstall a few days ago so they could get some stuff on the gem store. They couldn’t get to install on their open drive and they ran out of room. After 2 days they just gave up and said nevermind. I myself just replaced my HDD with kitten, its super small and just for the OS. I cant install on my HDD, why? Why is this not fixed? Its been almost 2 weeks since I found out. Why was it even removed?? The support page still says “Click the red Install Guild Wars 2 button, choose the installation location, and click OK to begin the installation process.”

Yes I am dramatically upset. But really……why isn’t it fixed?

You can rename gw2setup.exe to gw2.exe and install and run the game wherever you desire.

Can Arenanet fix this please cause my friend wants to play the game but can’t install it into his D drive cause we can’t choose the directory for installation and we have tried the EXE way but it doesn’t install it probably in programs

Would be nice if ANet fix this for new incoming players before the expansion.

I think this is recently broken? I remember I can choose folder in the past.

And yeah, please fix it, it would really help new comers for new expansion.
