Can't enable hires character textures.
Is your OS 32-bit? I seem to remember hi-rez textures not being an option if you only have a 32-bit OS.
Yeah I’m using a 32 bit os… doesn’t make sense that high resolution textures would be restricted to 64 bit os’, plenty of other games support Ultra or High Res textures for DX11 users (I know GW2 only uses DX9).
Can't enable hires character textures.

Hi NarcoticHaze,
The limits for 32-bit operating systems are intended by design to avoid “Out of Memory” crashes.
is there a way to manually remove that limit and is it allowed by the term of use

To the OP: This is only a helpful tip.
With your system, you should really look into getting a 64bit OS. You have all that ram and not even half of it is being used. It’s a waste of good ram. If memory serves me correctly, a 32bit OS can only support up to 4GB max ram, and 1GB will be reserved for the OS, so only 3GB will be used everywhere else. Since you have a 2GB graphics card, that means only 1GB is used for the game with system ram. I could be off, but I think that’s how it works. Anyway, get a 64bit OS. You will utilize all of your memory, and any more you decide to put into there. It is a huge boost in performance when a system like that is able to be run without constraints.
iirc, the OS can only access 2gig per application, with a 4gig maximum cap.
the 2gig of gpu mem is not considered since its not intergrated.
I wonder whats the maximum ram gw2 can use at once though…
With regards to memory:
32-bit apps under 32-bit windows can only allocate themselves up to 2 gigs of memory (this is independant of how much RAM you have – you can still allocate 2 gigs of memory if you only have 1 gig of RAM, it’s just your computer will grind to a halt if you try to use it all)
32-bit apps under 64-bit windows can – if they say they can handle it, which GW2 does – allocate up to 4 gigs of memory.
With regards to your RAM:
32-bit consumer windows can only address 4 gigs worth of hardware memory. Peripherals consume some of this – specifically, all your gfx card RAM uses up hardware addresses. With a 2GB card, this means there’s less than 2GB’s worth of 32-bit memory addresses left for the RAM. So three quarters of your RAM is being wasted.
Press control+shift+escape to bring up your task manager, and check the “Physical memory” section – the total there is the amount of usable RAM you have.
I very strongly reccomend installing a 64-bit OS
Thanks everyone for the info and tips, I’ll probably upgrade to the 64 bit version when I can.. could probably do it now, actually.
