Whenever I click on guild wars 2 icon it will pop up and say another copy already running on this computer I’ve tried restarting my computer, turning off anything that says GW2 in task manager under process, and attempting to uninstall the game nothing worked so far any ideas on what to do?

Just tried that still didn’t work. Other ideas?
This is usually caused by interference from other running programs.
Use MSCONFIG to disable all unneeded startup programs, reboot and try again.
Msconfig instructions:
http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_win7.html
It’s similar for Windows 8 except you use the Task Manager to disable start-up programs.

Uhh which ones should I disable they all seem very important
AMD USB 3.0 Device Detector
cFosSpeed Window
Realtek HD Audio Manager
THXCfg64
Microsoft Office 2010
XFastUSB
THXAudioNB
Creative Updreg
Catalyst Control Center
Microsoft Windows Operating System
those are my only options

I’ve looked up and shut down multiple of the list above still gotten no good results I shut down all non necessary systems and it still does not work. Any other suggestions? I’d really love to have this fixed before WvW reset tomorrow.

I have the exact same problem. I’m just sitting here, waiting for someone clever to come up with a fix.

this: D3D9 Overlay: Not Supported
needs to look like this: D3D9 Overlay: Supported
Its a direct x 9c issue. And it seems almost everyone who is having problems looks like your dxdiag.txt file.
try reinstalling direct x and maybe you can still get in on some wvw action.

Got any reliable sites I can download direct x 9c from? All the ones I’ve tried either viruses or simply had no effect.

I’m working on that.
it seems simply reinstalling direct x isn’t working.
Actually, you don’t need to worry about these two:
D3D9 Overlay: Not Supported
DXVA-HD: Not Supported
These are for video playback related to the overlays that video players use, as well as HD video playback using DirectX 9. This won’t affect GW2.

Still can’t play GW2 I’d send a help report to anet but last time it took them 1-2 weeks to respond and another week to actually fix the problem please let me know someone is working on solving this problem and I’m not just wasting my time posting this
Either your OS is messed up, or some program is interfering with GW2. I hate to recommend re-installing Windows (it should be a last resort), but, in your case it will most likely solve the problem.

I’ll give it another hour or so if nobody comes up with any ideas I’ll try reinstalling windows
You could try a system restore to your computer. If you have recent restore points, restore your computer back to when you remember it working normally. You will have to re-update some things on your system, depending on how far back you go, it could be faster than re-downloading. Just a shot in the dark! Good luck =)

I tried system restore at first but had no results :/ ty for trying though I really am open to any and all ideas lol
When does it say that ‘guildwars2 is already running’ ? After or before the launcher?
and in your task manager under processes, Gw2.exe is not listed in there anywhere?

After I press it the first time nothing happens no matter how long I wait then when I click to open it again 10 minutes later it tells me a copy already running on the computer
when I got to task manager GW2.exe is listed depending on how many times I clicked it when I close one it doesn’t help or make it better in any way

either reboot your PC, or open task Manager and end task on every gw2.exe listed under processes.
Open the Path C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2 <— Copy and Paste into the search Bar on the start Menu
Find Local.dat and rename it Local.dat.old, or Delete local.dat
open your gw2.exe Launcher/shortcut
and let me know if the issue continues.

Tried that didn’t work
Also did you say delete local file for second part or just rename it “Delete locat.dat”
What anti-virus software do you use?
Also try to:
(To others: Yes, I know running as administrator should be enough UAC configuration to prevent this issue, but believe it or not, some users do have to do this setting change in addition to Run As Administrator to get UAC to allow the program to launch)

After much combined effort from the people of the forums and my guild mates trying hardest to fix this problem I can finally play GW2
Answer to this problem was to delete locat.dat file thank you to all who helped!

It seems I spoke to soon while now I can get to login screen 1-2 minutes after log in screen pops up and I’m downloading the new patch my entire computer crashes. I’m about to throw my computer out window and beat it with a hammer, but before I do that any suggestions on how to fix this NEW problem or should I just make a new thread about this issue?
